Mark & Everyone,
Been doing some preliminary work on the covered bridges. In doing so, I'm looking at some potential candidates for dates. This required trying to figure out when some other events will be going on so I don't setup a conflict or overload(ok, like that is not likely).
Anyway, I've started a spreadsheet with events and dates (I included some of the national events or other non-THMMC events that I know members have attended or may be interested in). Some are firm, some I guessed based on when they occurred in 2008 or 2007, and some I have no clue at this point. Obviously some may not get a date until much later in the year(if at all) and this may be way too early for some people to be thinking about such things. In any case, I've listed what I have below so far. If anyone wants to let me know of errors I have or updates, changes, etc., I'll edit the list.
Would it be possible to go ahead and start getting some of these loaded into the Events calendar here on the site? Might help others who are trying to plan things.

UPDATE: Items above have been updated based on some of the input provided. Also, I have put together a PDF that combines the above schedule with the HPDE schedule (http://www.totehmoon.com/uploads/2009_thmmc_calendar_of_events.pdf) and a few other major events. Just a different format, but may help some depending on how they process information.
Thanks!
Jeff

Good thinking!
I'll start working on dates for my stuff... FYI, I don't plan to do the Ocracoke run in the spring of 2009 - might do it in the fall, or skip a year.
I plan to schedule a Meet & Motor & Brew event several times in the year, might even do it monthly (not in the hot months, though... ) - This is more of a local event for the Triangle area folks, though all are welcome!
I plan to do Tours of Terror in (probably) February, and probably August - kinda midway between the spring and fall Dragon runs.
I'd LOVE to find some good stuff to do in Eastern NC - we need some Greenville/Washington/Wilmington area events!

Jeff,
I was looking over the list of covered bridges. I volunteer to scope out those in the northwestern counties; Ashe, Avery, Catawba, & Watauga. I will also investigate some of the routes you may want to try. If this works for you, let me know.

Fall would be nice... To skip a year would be saddening.

A MUST !!! for all those HPD people...

I second that motion on events concentrating on the Eastern side of NC. For what it lacks in twisties, it makes up for history, culture, and other touristy sites. The Duplin winery is a BIG one in my area and Wilmington has one of the most beautify ocean fronts with an awesome downtown area. Just in Wilmington alone, you have the Battleship, the beach, and plantation gardens (if your into that sort of thing).

What were the really good roads around Lake Norman, now have houses and bumber to bumber traffic. No need to even mention the potholes and the Leo situation.

X5JR, I'll be in touch with you for help with the covered bridges.
I'll just mention, I've been doing some research on challenge/trivia/scavenger hunt type rallies. Hoping that maybe I could offer up something like that at some point in 2009. During my research I ran across something the PhillyMini club does. They call it the "Cooper Cup" - basically a trivia type rally. The winner gets a big trophy that they pass around to each winner. Of course, the down side for the winner is they have to serve as rally master for the next event. Looks like they run these twice a year (spring and fall). Sounds like a fun idea to me. In light of the need for some events down east, this might be a way to make up for the lack of twisties.
I also noticed they are doing a Night Owl run this month. I know many here enjoy the midnight runs on the Dragon. Wonder if there might be any interest in a nighttime run in other areas?

Well what i was thinking was not necessarily driving events.Had a few other ideas:
(1)Picnic somewhere on or around Lake Norman.
(2)There are 2 neat museums in Mooresville,Memory Lane, all kinds of cars, race, antique, classic and all kinds of memobrillia.
Then,The North Carolina Motorsports Hall Of Fame, all kinds of motorsports stuff,Nascar, antiques, classics, hot rods and Drag stuff, rails, funny cars, etc.
(3)Nascar shop tours,
(4)Neat themed restaurants,Lancasters in Mooresville is pretty cool, all decorated in Nascar sheetmetal, drivers suits, prints and much more, even has a school bus inside you can eat in while watching the race.
Big Daddy's Restaurant, great seafood, theme:nautical and nascar, with three real Nascar race cars on the roof for display!
(5)Race go karts at a new facility with hi powered karts!(indoor)
Yea i know, all the above have to do with racing, can't help it,thats what i do!
Just some ideas i had for activities in my neck of the woods,Let me know if there is any interest in doing something down south and i'll see what i can do to get something working.
Thanks,
Bill

I would drive down your way for most of that stuff, Bill.... way cool....
And gang.... if we can make a shop tour happen at Bill's, it's worth taking off a day to go... it's fantastic!

Good ideas, buddy! I used to go to Lancasters with my 'stang club, it's a cool place. We need to find some suitable roads around here, I think at least a short "fun" drive is an integral part of any "good" MINI event...

Looks like there may be some good roads down around King's Mountain and toward Gaffney.... someone should scout a loop down there...
Could also do a day trip outta Charlotte to Caesar's Head and back.... that would be cool...
I'm thinking that at least one of the 2009 Tour of Terror drives will concentrate on the northwest part of the state (instead of going to the Dragon)... because there are many awesome roads up there, and it's so much closer.... Maybe spend the night in Boone or Blowing Rock...

Hey, is it a safe assumption everyone enjoyed the St Pat's day parade last year? I just got the registration form for next year.

hahha, just occurred to me that with a lightened flywheel... a parade is going to suck, hahaha. That whole 0-5 MPH zone, not the easiest to maintain :)

Bump to let everyone know I've updated the schedule in the first post (just a little bit) and created a little tool to help you cross reference these dates with the high performance events (different thread). I'm sure all of it will keep changing and growing as 2009 unfolds.

I'll keep an eye on this thread, anything in eastern NC might appeal to us up here in the HR MINI group. I plan on trekking down for as many Tarheel events as I can. The boy child will be back in Charlotte with his MINI in March when his internship is up at Disney. Hopefully i can plan a combination THMMC meet along with a trip down to see him, or better yet, have him meet up with everybody with his MINI.
