Looks like MINI are going to be represented again in the 24 Hours of Dubai endurance race, this time by a team from Denmark. The race is scheduled for January 8-10, 2009. Stefan Kaas Racing will be running a MINI Challenge 2008 model (1600cc) in the A4 class. Currently there are only two other cars entered in the A4 category, a Mazda RX-7 and a BMW Z3 M. I seem to remember a live video stream being made available from the official 24 Hours of Dubai web site, so check there first on the weekend of the race. Below is a link to a story on the Stefan Kaas Racing team. Unfortunately there is no English version of the text available on the site, but at least you can check out the photos of the cars.

I guess I shouldn't be, but I was surprised to see that the cars were not right-hand drive. I guess if it had been a British team fielding the cars they might have been. Or if they were really still British cars...

Last year a British team was running a MINI in the 24 Hours of Dubai, and I seem to remember theirs were RHD.

With a little over seven hours into the 24 Hours of Dubai race, and the Stefan Kaas Racing MINI is running 56th overall and second in the A4 class (out of four A4 class entries). A Lotus Exige is leading the A4 class. You can find the latest stats here:

Past the halfway mark and the MINI is now down to 65th overall and third in the A4 class behind the Lotus Exige and the Mazda RX-7. Apparently they ran into some trouble as their total time in the pits currently stands at three and a half hours! There's no way the Mazda can catch the Lotus unless the Exige develops some serious problems.
