Stacy King has asked me to inform you all of the upcoming event Asphalt Ventures is putting on at VIR. It's a very good venue, with the addition of some very intensive coaching by Chuck Hawks, a brilliant driver and instructor.

The details are here, it's well worth looking into.

I let Chuck drive my car in Feb., and he tore up the full course. It was the first time for him, and when he came back, he proclaimed the MINI to be his wife's next car.......

I have been to one of these, they are great.

It's interesting in the rain, that's for sure. Just imagine 1000 grit sandpaper at the apexes (but not at the turn in). For front wheel drive, it's okay, because on the way out you're pulling the car from the slicker pavement, not pushing from the sticky stuff. 14, the right hander at the end of the back straight, is really nice, but I can't lift throttle oversteer on 5a anymore.

Thanks for the heads-up. I was going to do the road rally in Raleigh but came across this thread. I'm dying to get back on the track so I may have to attend this instead.

Just for the record, I did go to this. Stacy puts on a great weekend and the new surface is GREAT. (including the paved paddock...lol, it really helped my knees when I had to put brakes on a friend's 350z)

Thanks for the heads up.

Mark did you stay at the lodge? If so, I saw your MINI there. I was there as well that weekend helping a friend race over on the north course with WERA. My filthy dark silver MINI was out in parking lot of the lodge. I was embarrassed that it was so dirty after seeing yours. haha! Beautiful car for sure.

Glad that you all had a good time. I was watching when I could from over on the north course.

Man, I was torn that weekend. All my experience was on the track on motorcycles and to watch the guys run the North track made my heart race.... God, I miss being on a bike....

Have you ever stayed at the Lodge before? I was THOROUGHLY impressed. It was nice, new, spotless and reasonable.

Really like that there.

Hopefully we'll run into each other again.

We usually stay in the garage suites on the North Course. Back on Oct. when we were there with Cornerspeed for a trackday we stayed in the Lodge for the first time. Very very nice for sure! I don't see why anyone would pay to stay at a hotel in town. The rates are very reasonable and you can't beat having the track out your front door!

It was tough for me to sit through that weekend as well. I am usually out there with him on my R6. I just haven't gotten the racing bug yet.

Watching you guys on the South Course sure made me want to try a trackday in the MINI!

I was thinking the same thing about bikes. I sold my last sportbike 2 years ago and started riding Harleys.

Everytime the weather gets nice, I think of twisties on a bike.

Me with a passenger....lol
