So far the 1st and 3rd links look to have the most promise, as the Manna Foodbank is only open on select Saturdays for a few hours, and not on Sundays. I'll give the other two a call tomorrow to see how a group like ours could be handled and post what information/dates i can get

I am a corporate sponsor of the Waterworks Visual Arts Center in Salisbury. I would be happy to get you any information for this event. This is also the day that the British Car show is being held in Salisbury. So it might mesh well with club members already coming down to the show could lend a hand at the same time.

I'll contact them tomorrow, and see what info I can get for it. Any info that you can get would also be appreciated. Sounds like it could be a really cool deal with the car show and all. I hope there'd be enough people that would want to stick around to help with the art auction.

I'd rather at first find an organization we can donate to with proceeds that we receive. Then if time permits we can have an event or events at their location to help them out. thats why I suggested the food banks for us to give to.

Ahhh, a miscommunication on my part. I'm guessing the funds from the Italian Job movie showing is where the funds are coming from? ;)

Those funds are going to the Victory Junction Gang. I'm looking to find a new chairity for future donations.

How about one of the local animal shelters. They always need food and money.

I like that too!

So how would a monetary/ food donation go? Would we all make an appearance or just one member of the group (myself?). Would we do the collection at one of the Second Sunday / another scheduled event? Could we make a group drive out of it and make the charity a point along the route?

TWISTER

I think any of that would do.
My guess it would depend on what the plan would be for that function/event

I called the Water Works and they did not have a time. I will check with them later for you.

I meant for the British Car Show / Rally.

If our club is only on for Sunday as Mark said, then I will call over to the Art Show and see what we could do for them. Then post here, see if there is interest and then get back with them.

The art show has been delayed and is TBA sometime in August.

Coming across the post, the first thing that came to my mind for a benefit/fundraiser is for Tara Miller.

I know you guys probably dont know who I am talking about, but Tara graduated from the same program that I am in at Forsyth Tech. She began working for Forsyth County EMS, and had only been there a few months before she was in a near fatal accident. Tara Miller was in a serious car wreck on Wednesday morning, October 4, 2006. She was in critical condition at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital for a few weeks. Tara was ejected from her car at around 65 mph, thrown over 60 feet away and fell nearly 15 feet.

Tara graduated from Forsyth Technical Community College in July with her EMS Associate's Degree. She got her paramedic certification and her National Registry just recently. She is a former graduate of Salem College with a BA in Psychology. She is one of the brightest people that I know and has future plans to go to medical school. Tara's parents, David and Terri, will be staying far from their home in Hemingway, SC with Jeff and Laura Smith in Winston-Salem as long as Tara's recovery takes.

Tara, to this date is still at Baptist Hospital. She has (to my knowledge) no longer holds a job with FCEMS. Due to the nature of her injuries, it is very possible that she may never be able to walk again... The bills are very expensive and her family is doing all that they can to provide for Tara. There have been a few fundraising events in Tara's name; golf tournament and a Hot Dog Sale, as well as the sale of those blue rubber band bracelets (like the yellow "Livestrong" bands) to raise money....

For more details you can visit: http://www.abouttaramiller.com

There is an account set up by Captain Shane Moore of Forsyth County EMS as Benefit for Tara Miller at the First Citizens Bank of North Carolina (main branch in Winston-Salem is located at 3001 Trenwest Dr. Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or others on the web at www.firstcitizens.com (http://www.firstcitizens.com/) ).

Kyle and the New Town Bistro (where Tara worked at before she graduated from FTCC) crew have started an account at Southern Community Bank (located at 4701 Country Club Rd. Winston-Salem, NC 27104 or others on the web at www.smallenoughtocare.com (http://www.smallenoughtocare.com/) ) to help Tara's roommate, Melissa, and Tara's family so that her financial obligations here in North Carolina don't overwhelm the family and displace Melissa.

Look at the site, see what you think and if you think its a cause worth donating to or raising money for. Let me know if you have any questions and I will do the best in trying to answer them. If I cant answer them, I will ask the person who would know... You can privately email me @ firefighter722@hotmail.com

Thanks,
becky S.

Hi,

My first post!

How about Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County? They are in the business of supplying affordable housing to help eliminate poverty and sub-standard housing in W-S. All funds or items given to the affiliate go directly back into the Forsyth County community.

We are waiting for our 2007 Mello Yellow Mini to be built.

Thanks.

Dave

H4H is a great organization. I worked with them a LOT when I was taking a sabbatical <clears throat and whispers> laid off, in Atlanta. Made skilled supervisor rookie of the year, b/c a) I was there all the time, b) I was willing to do roofing! ;-)

Anyway there are so many good causes, maybe we could organize a ride to a house and donate our sweat equity instead of money to H4H and still have cash for the other charities? In ATL, we were always looking for willing hands.

I am all for the H4H idea and sweat equity is always good!

I'm plugging the organization I work for.....Special Olympics North Carolina.

www.sonc.net (http://www.sonc.net)

Fall Games will be held in November in High Point if the club would like to get a group of volunteers together. Shifts are typically 4 hours and depending on the venue - we could make a big entrance.

It would thrill me to death for the club to do a rally or some such other fundraiser for SONC.

Being a new member I just generally read the posts. I am going to Scotland in July and while there will visit with some of our brethren in the Mini Clan in Glasgow and the Inverness Mini Club in Inverness. An interesting note is the Inverness Mini Club is having a rally in August to raise funds for the Highland Hospice. I've given to this organization before and have found them a very worthwhile charity.

My wife, Ann, and I are going to present a check to the Inverness club for the Highland Hospice on behalf of the Triad Highland Games in Greensboro (the Triad Games are twinned or sistered to the Highland Games in Inverness).

The thought is if any of the THMMC wish to donate also I can take that over as well. Sort of one club to the next, hands across the water so to speak.

This isn't a recurring donation but only if any individuals wish to give.

Any interested can contact me on the cell: 828-302-3844 or email tarlander@tarlander.com

Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities (http://www.tammylynncenter.org/) in Raleigh offers educational, residential, and family support services to children and adults with special needs in the Triangle area. Check out their web site, www.tammylynncenter.org (http://www.tammylynncenter.org). This is a wonderful place that performs miracles every day, and I know they need the support.
