Now that Tar Heel MINI Motoring Club is a year and a half old, and 370+ members strong, we think it's time to set some goals for our club. As always, our #1 goal is to have fun with our cars and friends, but we would like to know what YOU want from your club.
We would like to have your ideas for:
? Events - picnics, dinners out, tours, camping
? Drives - where do you want to go?
? Community Service - both events we can participate in and fundraising
? Discounts - what else can we get?
? Perks
? Web site design or new functions
We want to know what you want to get out of your club membership. We welcome all ideas, and would love to have your help with planning. Please email me back your ideas. I will be posting these on the forum for everyone to see and discuss.
If you have time to devote to events or ideas that you think other members would like to do, I'd like to know that also.
Thanks,
Mark Vogler - President

I want a regular weekly or bi-weekly meet somewhere in the Triad. I just can't find a spot.

I'll post emails from members when I get them
I would like to suggest that we adopt a family in need to help out. How about helping with a food pantry or cooking a meal for the homeless shelter. Visit Brenner's Childrens Hospital with gifts for the children. Make a donation to the Ronald McDonald house near Baptist. Get gifts for an Angel Tree this Christmas. Go caroling at Christmas. Help with a Thanksgiving meal at a church or Domestic Violence Shelter. Visit a nursing home and take little generic gifts. That is always a good place to go caroling.

My first thought(s) are perhaps doing something for an animal-related group. Personally, I'm all about the animals, cats particularly. I volunteer with Siamese Rescue (the main center is in Locust Dale, VA, but there are centers in CA, TX and Kansas). We get any Siamese that are in shelters into the group's adoption program, providing they are qualified, and gett them new foster homes and "forever homes", as well as SR Transport - getting the meezers from their foster homes to their new homes. I also volunteer at the monthly "Spay Days" for Greensboro's Feral Cat rescue group and they ALWAYS need money - seems they are forever operating on a shoestring. That might be a different focus for some type of fund-raising event we could do.
I'm horrible at thinking up fund-raising events (Krispy Kreme anyone?) but more than willing to lend a hand at someone else's event idea! :)
Maybe a beach trip in the spring? I'm from Manteo, originally, so if we wanted to go there I know all the great places to hit and it's a BEAUTIFUL drive, esp. once you get past Raleigh.

You?ll probably get a lot of ?duplicate submissions? and here are mine! ;-) Dave?s top 10
1) The ?general? mod day at Magoo?s was great
2) The pulley party at Dan?s was great
3) Maybe an interior mod party or a stripes party or some other party that would involve the Coopers and the non-performance crowd?
4) The ride to the Concourse de Graylen car show was great
5) ?My? Wine and Whine run was great ;-)
6) I put up a suggestion about doing a drive (from Flow?) to a Toys for Tots site
7) From what I?m hearing the Mabry Mill run will be great
8) I think a drive to somebody else?s charity meet would be a good idea
9) I?m the exception to the rule, by not being local, I would think the locals would want to hang out for dinners/lunches?
10) We should get the Red Bull MINI to participate with us on more runs
Thanks for all you do, it?s a great club and I?m glad to be a part of it!

Some (real) Rallies for just Minis. I would be interested in helping put these together as long as I can still participate in the rally.
A day at VIR on the track at speed. (I?m doing another club day on Nov. 5th)

I'm afraid I've been too busy with kids' activities to participate in
anything yet. The Spookywoods thing sounds like fun, but I'm running a
haunted house for my Rotary Club in K'ville all of next week. I did hear
from Scott Mann at Flow Mini when I bought my car last year that the club
made two excursions per year to Virginia International Raceway. I looked
forward to that, but haven't heard anything more about that. Is that still
done?

It's so great to see in a "what can we do for YOU" post, that the majority of the replies include charity events, fundraisers, and volunteering to help those that are in greater need than any of us. I really love that about this group!
I'd like to second an idea that I think we could work on soon, and elaborate on it a little.
Dave's idea about the drive from FLOW for toys for tots is a great idea, and actually something I think we could get a lot of support from FLOW and some local news channels on. We could try to get something started for this year, as long as we do it soon. My elaboration on his idea is this:
We could make donating toys into something really fun by lining up a bunch of our MINIs in front of FLOW and seeing how many toys we can stuff into them. I'm sure FLOW would love the publicity and may offer to buy some toys, and the news channels could get the word out in advance for us, and then they could be on site to show the results. If 10 of us volunteer our "boots" for this we would probably get a lot of response, and a lot of toys.
I'd be happy to help with this one if enough people seem interested.
I also love the idea of doing some drives up to VIR, and taking our cars out on the track. I was hoping to join the August Rally with my MINI right after it came in, but they decided not to go to VIR this year, so I wasn't able to do that.
And I'd also love to do a bi-monthly meet if possible.

I still think a weekend "camping trip" would be a blast. The BMW Motorcycle group does this each year on Halloween Weekend, and it's pretty fun. Just a thought. I'm happy to help plan the camping gig or anything else you might need help with!

How many members are from the Charlotte area? Most of your events are in the WS/Greensboro area. How about events around here?
John JeppesenThat has been asked so much and I keep trying to get things started down there. There are 2 issues, one I have no control over and one maybe you and others can help me out with.
1. M2C2 is primarily located out of Charlotte.
2. I've been looking for some person or group of members to try and get things going in and around Charlotte.
I know Dave Shearer has stepped up and had 1 event earlier this month at Childress Winery.
If we could get some sort of spot to meet and have dinner on a weekend I'll be happy to come down and meet with everyone and see if we can get something going. I'm doing that in Raleigh in November on the 11th
Here is a link to a list of all members and you can see where our members are at. We have quite a few in the Charlotte area.
Let me know what I can do and if we can a spot it will be a start.
Thanks,
Mark Vogler
