Anyone up for a drive to get out of the house for awhile and motor with your MINI friends?
http://inlinethumb36.webshots.com/38563/1280726792043447880S500x500Q85.jpg
We'll head out from Winston and cruise up to Stone Mountain (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&q=Stone+Mountain+State+Park,+United+States&ie=UTF8&cd=9&geocode=0,36.395905,-81.082035&sll=35.53166,-82.20704&sspn=0.006295,0.006295&z=12&iwloc=addr&om=1) through some great twisties and then have a great lunch/dinner at a local restaurant in Sparta!
http://ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/stmo/main.php
There is an empty furniture store across the street from a Wilco/Hess gas station (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=4019+Reynolda+Rd+Winston+Salem+NC+&ie=UTF8&z=16&iwloc=A) that we will meet at. Starting time I think should be 10AM with a departure time of 10:30

Man, I haven't been out in a LONG time! WFH today to sneak in some remodeling work, if I can get it done this week, maybe I can come out and play. I usually go up I-85 and hook up at the beginning, however, I could join the other CLT peeps and go up 77.
Will figure all this out later in the week...and thanks for Mark for setting this up, it's a fun one!

I've been limping for the last 5-6 hours. Though we have a riding lawn mower, I had to use a push mower for freshly planted sod. You want to see something stupid??? Watch someone attempt to hobble behind a self propelled lawn mower...lol.

So once we hit 421 I headed back to Winston.
It was fun while it lasted. I'll have to invest in the walkie talkies so if I have another crazy lady with a bunch of dogs that I have to stop and let cross the road, and then get behind some old man in a pickup truck that would not let me pass to save my life, I'll be able to find where everyone is again.

Hey guys, fun to get out again and ditto on seeing friends old and new. I bailed with Vannifer down I-77 to hit the mall with the wifey, big brownie points for only being 15 minutes late. ;-)
To the cast of LOST: They're FRS radios, you can get them anywhere electronics are sold for $50 or so, and they're priceles on these drives.
To Al, my tuba toting friend, glad you showed up when you did or the five of us would have been lost, too! ;-)
Mark, we really need to hand out maps and/or have somebody hang back at turns when you have newbies, Just-a-I mean Coopahs, and those who aren't willing to run red lights in front of local cops like me. ;-)
Eliza, that doll was creepy and cool and huge doses--loved it! John, you having your furry little friend strapped in was also creepy and cool in equal measure. ;-)

It was a good time. I think we need to start a little earlier and use two people that know where they're going so we can make two little packs instead of one.... that way if they get separated, they'll still know where they're going.
Mark did a great job of pulling over and allowing everyone to get caught up but with 20 cars, sometimes things like traffic lights (or cops at traffic lights but that doesn't mean anything to Dave...lol)
gets us separated.
I think a run through something like Cherohola Skyway where you have a looong "stay on the same road" course would make it easier.
Overall, it was well organized, we lost almost half the pack when we finished with lunch. I don't know if they just decided it was time to go home or what....
Can't wait till next time, I definitely need to do this more often. And as for driving with my two toes crunched, you should see my foot this morning, it looks like my foot ate a small animal, it's swollen like crazy.
Oh well.
Hope you can make the next one.

When I was on my Triple Crown adventure this summer, got to talk to some folks from other clubs about how they organize and manage their runs. One of the tricks was to have a leader for about every 10-12 cars plus a sweeper for the whole group. They also reported success with an idea I had to move the less spirited drivers to the front. I'll be looking to try some of this my next run.

It was a great day thanks to all.
One way it might help to stop loosing people would be, to watch for the person behind you if you can not see them you slow down or stop. This eventually has the leader stop. If you are at a turn and can not see the following car stop and wait. This how a Land Rover Club I Used to belong to operated.
Anyway! It was a great day and here are my photos I took.

Team work, helps if everyone keeps an eye out for the folks behind them. If ya see that the car behind you didn't make it through a light or make a turn, get on the radio and pass the info on up to the leader..:ms_thumbsup: 2 cents.

I was last to make it thru, I was too busy trying to pull up Dueling Banjos on the ipod. Had to settle for Bill Monroe which Ohbuga did not like by the way. Did not notice we had lost the back half of the pack.
