I'm in.... please add me to the list.

I drove to FL this last weekend to get a retune. The car wouldn't pull at all. I ended up driving back only to burn a hole in my valve cover (AGAIN) see post (http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/coupe-talk-2007/179789-oh-no-not-again-another-melted-valve-cover.html)

Anyway, got the car back together, found my lost found HP and ready for a new tune.

I did just receive word that the dimsport tune for the JCW is about ready so by the time we do the tune, Jan should have it ready.

Wow, rough story. Sounds like a couple bolts loose caused a huge headache. Did you burn through the valve cover the first time at Roebling? I remember you pulled off one time looking for a rattle.

Give Dan @ Grassroots a call when you're ready for the pulley :D He does great work and his shop is fun to hang out out!

Hey guys, had a long conversation with Jan today and there is something we need to consider and that is temps... A tune day here in late Jan or early Feb will mean a very good chance of very cold temps. Jan says while a tune done on days in the high 30's or low 40's is OK, for optimum (especially for those tracking) 60's is much better. If we tune say at 40 degrees and then most track days will be in the 80's, your talking a 40 degree difference in the air. Last tune I had done it was 95 degrees, not the very best either but still only 10 to 15 degrees off of what most of the track days was. 60's is a very good medium. He suggested that we might want to wait until mid march or so when we start warming up here. Jan's never lived in NC and didn't realise it got as cold as it does in the winter...

So please let me know where everyone's head is at on this and we will firm up a date. Personally I'm very anxious for a cam and tune but would rather wait for the very best results, but I will go along with the consensus..

Thanks
Mark

Two thoughts....

I'm assuming the dyno is inside, no? If so, I'm assuming that the inside temps will be in the 60's at least, is that not a safe assumption?

Second, I NEED a tune. When I drove to Orlando a few weeks ago to get my car retuned and was having problems and not making boost, Jan installed a tune so I could drive it.

Point is, the driveability sucks... I can't wait to get it retuned.

So I'm all for getting it done asap obviously.

i'm guessing that the air comes from outside. Our cars are small, but you can't really feed a v-8 on the air an indoor HVAC can provide. Plus monoxide- it has to be outside air.

Still, I'm ok with January.

I agree that they'll have a door open for fresh air but I was just thinking ambient air temps would be in the 60 degree range....

It's all cool, I gave my opinion but I'm along for whatever the general concensus is.

Just passing on what Jan said..

The large door will have to be open when running and Speedwerks is a large high ceiling open building. Last time it was hot out and hot in, so I would expect that on a cold day. it will also be cold out and cold in..

I'm fine either way - though it makes sense to wait until it's a bit warmer, to ENSURE it's gonna be warmer, you'd have to wait until April.

The longer we wait, them more temptation I'll have to install a head before the retune... and the more likely I am to do it...

birdman13
January 1st, 2010, 09:18 PM
What Jan says makes sense to me. I am fine with waiting, but I don't mind doing it sooner either. I would like to make the most of the tune though and if Jan thinks it would be better for us to wait, then I am inclined to go with that. However, I am fine with doing it early also - you guys can decide.

minipack
January 1st, 2010, 10:47 PM
I agree with birdman13. Jan is the professional, if I'm paying him for his expertise I think we should also follow his advice and wait for warmer weather. I'm anxious to get the tune asap as well, but knowing it was performed under the optimum conditions would make it worth the wait. Just my opinion...

blitzcat
January 2nd, 2010, 01:47 AM
I can wait. But I want a definite date to be set, because this is the third thread (that I know of) where we tried to get enough interest together to do this- I'd hate to get into March only to find we don't have enough cars anymore, and have tune day canceled. In the mean time, my Alta FMIC is bored.

minimark

As Blimey alluded to, the ambient temps also effects the humidity level inside as well and humidity effects the A/F ratios... Simple test is to go get a humidity gauge and see how low the humidity is in your house right now. This summer, it will be much higher.

April after the VIR event might be good?

I understand the reasoning but if it's going to be April, I'm going to find out where Jan is that is within an 8 hour drive and go to him.

So far I've driven to KY for my first tune and it was great.
My drive to Orlando was a bust and I seriously need another tune.

Hell, I'd be happy if Jan would get the OBDII units in and I could install the last tune he did for me. My car sucks driving right now. In fact, so much I've been driving the H2 for the last few weeks.

That however, will stop shortly. I'm shipping the H2 to CA for a duramax diesel conversion. (almost 900ftlbs of torque)

Once you guys set a hard date, let me know, if I can find Jan sooner than April, then I'm doing some driving....

Looking at when the temp might possibly be reasonably warm but before summer gets here, I think we'd be looking at the following:

April 17
May 8

WOW that's something isn't it!! Tuning is what it's all about so me thinks the tune days are and always will be a priority! He's just wanting to tie it in to when he will be on the east coast and have the time to do it. We are in the process of bringing a much better site to the public. I'm being drug into the 21st century whether I want to or not...lol

It's actually going to have a shopping cart and forum where we can discuss what we are doing behind the scenes without all of the internet bench racers spreading misinformation. I have become aware of many of the "slants" people are using out there in the community and it's just plain false. There will be detailed info never released to the public. Suspension setups, engine combos etc . National champion Ian Stewart will be helping out also. We plan on doing some tuning days /track days for our customers to maximize their motoring experience. We will be releasing some very special systems before the dragon that will change what's being done. Our Rotrex kits are now in production and being installed on numerous cars. Be prepared in early April to see the latest...........................................check in early and often on the website for details. You will notice our site will say Revolution Motor Works as we are moving out into the BMW, and Porsche community with our tuning and parts.

3. Sign up locals and Jan will take care of you.

From reading this post over the last several months, that exactly what they have done.

Sorry, maybe I misunderstood. From what I have read it did not seem like a definitive date had been established with a list of cars filling all available slots. I guess I missed something.

That's been the problem - we haven't been able to get Jan to provide us with potential dates so we could nail one down as definitive.

I think Jan was trying to tie it into a time when he was already going to be on the east coast playing with some race cars.

He does have an extremely packed schedule. When I organized the tune here in Austin last fall, the first step was to lock in Jan, I did that 3 months in advance just to be safe. Since everything revolves around his schedule you really need to get him locked, then the other pieces will fall into place.

The effort and wait were worth it though, my new tune is incredible. Don't give up on the tune, get on his calendar!

We can order tuning on his web site now (http://www.revolutionmotorworks.com/?page_id=75&category=4). But I think we are all pretty disappointed this didn't happen before the Dragon. And I'd guess our commitment list needs pruning.

Serious question, will it get too hot to tune also? We had the 'too cold' problem in the winter.

Hello folks,

I am the shop/dyno owner (and a Mini owner) and we can do this nearly any weekend. Get a date from Jan and we can make this happen!

Thanks!

THAT is the reason why I find myself driving to Kentucky and Florida to meet Jan to get my tunes done. I don't know why but for some reason, getting Jan to NC is like
pulling teeth.

It's almost May and we still haven't been able to confirm a date.

Another month down.

I'm going to be going back to Orlando again soon to tune something very special................. if you want a tuning day.......... get 6 paying people together minimum and I will rerout through Charlottle. I would want to tune at the same place as last time. The dynapack is superior for tuning. This will have to revolve around when I go to Orlando and it will probably be short notice as so bear with me

What is the actual date we would need to show up with cars in charlotte? We have more than enough owners that confirmed their desire to get tuned- its time to see who can actually come the day of.

Set a date and I will call Andy at r Speedwerks and arrange it. We have already spoke and he is ready when we are.

Didn't we have about ten paying customers months ago, waiting for you to set a date?

Jan,

Tell us what date you are going to Orlando so we know what day/weekend you'll detour through Charlotte. If you give us a date, we'll have a minimum of 6 guys.

Thanks,

Mark

Jan,
You have a location arranged in Charlotte or will this be in Thomasville?

Count me in, I just need to know where.

I'M IN... We're going on a cruise on the 23 or 24th so that'll give me just enough time to get it done.

One question though... In March, we were worried about it being too cold, are we not worried about heat now?

Regardless, I'm in....

Apparently the tune schedule was lost in the server failure. I will post a new thread later tonight, please confirm that we have everyone down correctly when it's up.
Thanks
