Otter escape delays plane
HOUSTON, Dec. 24 (UPI) --
Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport said a flight to Ohio was delayed by a group of otters that escaped from cages in the cargo hold.
Passengers said the unspecified number of otters were apparently being unloaded from the Columbus-bound Continental Airlines Flight 1294 at the Houston hub when the animals managed to escape their cages and ran about the cargo hold of the plane, WBNS-TV, Columbus, Ohio, reported Thursday.
Airport officials said workers were able to capture all of the otters, including at least one that witnesses said escaped onto the tarmac, and the flight left Houston a little more than one hour behind schedule.
Some of the passengers said they discovered evidence of the otters when they recovered their bags in Columbus. One man, who said he had packed coffee into his bag, said he discovered what appeared to be hay inside the suitcase when he retrieved it from baggage claim.
