Check it out! The husband and I are going - this will be the first time I have personally driving ANYTHING on any sort of race track and of course Killer's never been on one (I-40 qualifies some days, though, at least it feels like it does). C'mon out & take the day off. Ya know you need a mental health day away from work and it's for a good cause!
:D Vrrrrooommm!

Guess the link might not have worked: here's the text from the webpage. The event is actually called VIR Holiday Laps.
Although the racing season at VIRginia International Raceway is now complete, one of the facility’s most popular events is coming up soon. The final public event of the season is scheduled for December 8, namely the fifth annual Holiday Laps program, a joint promotion with the Salvation Army in which the public gets to drive their personal cars around the historic 3.27-mile circuit in exchange for a donation to charity.
On December 8, the track will be open between the hours of 12:00 noon and 4:00 p.m. for fans and enthusiasts to drive the track in their own cars, under controlled conditions behind a pace car, in exchange for a donation of money, non-perishable food items and toys equivalent to at least $25. All donations and proceeds will be donated to the Danville Salvation Army.
This year, VIR will again be working in conjunction with Danville radio stations WAKG-FM and WBTM-AM in their annual holiday-season fund-raising drive, “Christmas Bucks for Kids.” Last year the Holiday Laps program raised $3622 in cash and $1500 in toys and gifts for a total of $5122, an increase of more than 135 percent over the $2150 raised in 2004. In addition, an auction held on WAKG for a package of race tickets, merchandise and other VIR-related amenities raised $800. WAKG and WBTM set their 2005 goal for “Christmas Bucks for Kids” at $103,000 and raised more than $115,000. This year, VIR is targeting $7,000 in Holiday Laps donations and “Christmas Bucks for Kids” set their new goal at $120,000.
“We see a lot of significant contemporary and vintage racing cars lapping our track throughout the year,” said VIR co-owner Connie Nyholm, “but the regular street cars that come out to drive the track during VIR Holiday Laps are every bit as significant. This program is very important to us, because it allows us to give our fans a chance to experience life on the other side of the guardrail while also helping others who are less fortunate during the holiday season. It’s always a pleasure to work with the Danville Salvation Army, and being partners with WAKG and WBTM in the ‘Christmas Bucks for Kids’ program has been terrific. We hope everyone will come out and sample one of America’s greatest racetracks and donate to a great cause.”
Participants should arrive at VIR’s main gate on Friday, December 8, between the hours of 11:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. Track touring sessions will be organized throughout the day based on participation.
VIRginia International Raceway is a multi-purpose road racing facility, located on the Dan River between Danville and South Boston, Virginia, just north of historic Milton, North Carolina. In addition to its 3.27 mile natural-terrain road racing circuit, VIR is the cornerstone of VIR Club, America’s first motorsports country club; the VIR Raceplex Industrial Park; the VIR Gallery; Plantation Valley Kart Track, a 5/8 mile paved karting circuit; The Lodge at VIR, a 27-room trackside hotel; the new VIR Paddock Suites and Garages, with 18 dual-purpose hospitality/lodging units and garages; and the Oak Tree Tavern, a full-service restaurant located within the circa-1840 Plantation Clubhouse.
For more information, visit the track’s Web site at www.virclub.com or contact VIR at 434-822-7700.

I know. I'm puzzled as to why it's on Friday. But that just means more track room, as far as we're concerned! :D
