I want to prevent mushrooming on my 2006 MCS strut towers.
I have thoughts about installing the M7 STB but I am concerned about causing my hood to deflect, etc. Anyone have experience with this install?
Anyone seeing any mushrooming on the strut towers?
Thanks.:)

Just installed one last week and I thought I could form the pad to conform to it but it will need some cutting on the pad.
No mushrooming at all. Xfingers

You can buy just the plates if you don't want the bar or to have to mess with the hood stuff.

What causes the mushrooming?

Potholes and bad railroad tracks!

Do you suppose it's worse with the sport suspension and runflat tires?

Also, once the mushrooming has begun is it too late to install the plates?

From what I have gathered... mushrooming can be fixed by use of a piece of 2x4 and a BFH... at that point, you could install the plates, and this would keep the mushrooming from coming back. I imagine that it's best to fix it before it happens though...

Here is a link to the NAM site describing mushroom correction. It is a good one with pictures.

Okay, I got the m7 strut tower reinforcement plates. What do you torque the nuts down to when you are installing them?

25 foot pounds per the M7 directions. This install is documented on my web blog.

Has anyone had any experience with getting the mushrooming fixed under warranty? It looks like one of my strut towers is a little rounded out. I suppose I could go the BFH route and do it myself, but I'd much rather have a dealer do it if they're experienced. I'll probably go to Flow, unless it's not covered...

I took a spray bottle filled with water and soaked the pad along that area, closed the hood, and next day it was all conformed around the bar. No sweat!

I have yet to install the M7 strut on my MCS. Waiting for warmer weather. Dan suggested taking the liner out and cutting a layer out to make room for the strut. I'm just worried about cutting completely through the liner. My accuracy with an Exacto(sp?) knife is not very good. If I can get away with completely soaking the liner area for the strut and not have any bulging of the bonnet I'd rather go that route.
