Ok so I am in the process of putting parts together for installing my Alta CAI and checking things out and notice that I seem to be missing a bolt. This is an OEM bolt that attaches the lower portion of the stock airbox & a wiring harness bracket to the car... here is a picture of the missing bolt (sniped from Randy Webb :o ) It's the bolt in front of the ecu & fuse box.

I know the part number of the bolt is 51717036111 and its a M6 bolt.
What I need to know is... the length of the bolt so I can go pick one up at the hardware store... anyone have any info on this?

Get a hold of Dan at Grassroots, he might have one laying around if you're close and he'll sure know the spec's. I do know cars use a different (closer) thread pattern than construction bolts, can't remember the nomenclature, just know I had to go to a "real" hardware store one time to find a bolt that would work on my 'stang...

Put a nail in the hole and hold your fingertips to the nail at the entrance to hole, measure from there to tip add bracket thickness and you have your length..Sorry for the extremely technical instructions..;)

I misplaced the same bolt when I installed my alta cai I found it later in the shipping box that the cai came in. I used the box to put all the stock parts in and must have not realized I needed that bolt untill weeks later I noticed it was missing

If you can't find the correct bolt and you know the size let me know. I have a kit with various metric sizes and thread pitches.

What suprised me was the fact it is missing... As I have not taken it apart, and purchased the mini used from Carmax in September. My only guess is some idiot shop guy left it out at some point, considering the bolt is at least 1" long. It's not like it would wiggle it's way out, and it shouldn't have been loosened for any typical maintenance.
Another thing that I have noticed as well, someone seems to have installed a screw near the rear passenger in the lip of the top portion of the stock airbox... this screw passes through the top lip, but then lifts the top of the box creating an open wedge between the top and lower portions of the stock airbox. Not at all sure why this was done... I'm thinking the box came out at some point and was reinstalled improperly. Once I get all the bits together (as I purchased the Alta CAI and Alta top used, and its missing the rubber seals and screws etc) I will probably find some other jack leg repair someone has made as well

I appreciate the offer, but I believe I have found a replacement. I also had one of those bolt boxes laying around, and found a m6 16mm bolt with coarse thread which I believe is the almost the same as the one I am looking for. If its too long I can always hacksaw it to length.
