Just starting a thread for anyone wanting to share a little about their BRPT experience. Feel free to post here, start your own thread, or create a blog post.

For now, an update. We are in Sparta at the Alleghany Inn. First day went great as far as I could tell. I was in the back sweeping all day and things were very smooth back there. I don't think we lost anyone!

The BRP was magnificent as always, weather great (bit on the warm side late in the day).

I did take my son on a little backroads adventure around the Sparta area using a brochure we found for the Little River Valley Loop. Nice twisties and countryside for a little 30 minute jaunt.

We've very much enjoyed the day of motoring in Mimzy. We have been welcomed by veteran BRP'rs as well as new comers alike and it is appreciated. Asheville, here we come!

Keeping correct speed on the BRP is key. This didn't last long.

Day 2 is in the books. Again, a little on the hot side, but otherwise excellent weather and beautiful views. I managed to hike out to Erwin's View at Linville Falls. That was nearly disastrous as I was almost back to the parking lot when I missed a step and turned my ankle, sending me tumbling down the hill. Not sure which hurts worse - my slightly sprained ankle or my busted up elbow. I did manage to climb up to the summit of Mt. Mitchell though, even with the gimpy leg.

The motoring was great. Played sweeper again for the morning run and after lunch down to Linville Falls. From there I took the lead up to Mt. Mitchell. After that, we split into three groups for the final run into Asheville and either the hotel or Antler Hill Village @ Biltmore Estate. I think we are going to have some fabulous pics and videos from this year's run.

Once again, I don't think we lost anyone, though I understand a few may have had a little trouble finding the hotel. Hard to say though - everything is starting to blur together as my energy is sapped. The big question for tomorrow - do I make the climb up to the Devil's Courthouse?

I had quite an enjoyable two days. Thanks to Andrew for doing all the driving so I could sit back, relax and enjoy the awesome views. Was great to spend time with all my fellow MINI fanatics.

Thanks for the video, Jim. It was fun knowing you were back there. It does show that I still have room for improvement.

Nearly 1300 miles on the Clubbie from the end of the driveway out to the BRPT and back. Had a blast! Would do it again next weekend if I had the chance. It was great seeing folks I haven't seen in a while and meeting new people. But, that's what it's all about! Thanks for putting on a fun event.

I had an absolutely FANTASTIC TIME with everyone this weekend! Boy did I need that!! Ended up getting home to Annapolis at almost exactly midnight, what a long day, but SO worth sticking around for the last leg of the trip! I took a few pictures, hopefully I'll be able to get them up this evening. :) I miss all my MINI friends already!! I was so bummed this morning to look outside and see Stella sitting in the driveway alone. :( I think she misses you all too. :)

We had an absolute blast! 1300 miles by the time we got back in the driveway. Thanks to everyone for putting on such a great event - and thanks to everyone for making us Atlantans feel so welcome. We are (ok - me ) already planning on next year! Only two things I would have changed - hot h20 would have been nice at the 2nd hotel - what a wake-up call, and that darn rock - but I don't want to talk about that...

Went last year and this year and would do again. Every event that I have attended with Tarheel Mini has been a blast. That is a direct reflection on the leadership of the club and the great people that make up the membership.

Thanks to Jeff for the run through the back roads of Virginia just to get to the start.

You guys are a little far away for most events, but I will be looking forward to MSSD and the Tiny Tour of Terror.

Thanks

PS: I needed a little more Mini stuff. So I went to Road Atlanta for Mini vs Porsche this afternoon and got some HOT laps. Pace car lead all out. 116 MPH on the back straight.

This was a wonderful event. Many "Thanks" to all who planned it and pulled it off. We met a lot of new folks and everyone was great. Just what we expected from MINI people. A very special "THANK YOU" to the couple who are former paramedics for your prompt attention to Mary Ann when she fell. Although she was only slightly injured, I could tell be your response that if she had been badly injured, she would have been in good hands. You guys are great! One additional note--Sunday was our 40th wedding anniversary. Couldn't have spent it with a better group of people!!

One thing that might help, is to constantly remind drivers to keep up. On several occasions, there was a driver holding up an entire line of MINI's and the one in front of them wasn't even in sight. Granted, we don't want to tail gate, but two or three car lengths will work.

Have we ever thought about adding Skyline Drive to the beginning of next years run?

jcauseyfd
June 28th, 2010, 10:55 PM
There was a group this year that did the Skyline on Thursday on their way to the rallying point.

maacodale
June 29th, 2010, 06:48 AM
If the route alternates north to south/south to north Skyline Drive would be at the end of next years run, right?

Agnt006
June 29th, 2010, 01:12 PM
I believe we're sticking with North to South again for next year's tour.

HEY! I almost forgot, while we were in Sparta, a couple of us were talking to Bob Bamberg from Alleghany County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center. He said if we had any great pictures of our time in Sparta/Alleghany County send them to him. Maybe add a quick note about your time in Sparta. his email is director@SParta-NC.com
