View Full Version : We're going to be in a PARADE!!!

Ok, we've been contacted by BB&T and asked to help with the parade they will be putting on... here are the details:

"The parade is May 19th from 12:30 - 1:00 p.m. and runs from downtown Winston-Salem at 4th Street to Grace Court (which is the park with the gazebo across from West End Caf?). The parade is to kick off the Forsyth Humane Society's "Art Unleashed" event for 2007 (if you are a local, this is the event with the painted dog and cat forms that decorated downtown Winston-Salem all summer). Last year we had a tremendous response and are hoping for more of the same this year. We'd love to have your group participate in the parade and personally, as a new MINI owner, I'd love to hear more about your group as well:) "

We need to be at our staging location between 11:30 and 12. The parking lot is between 4th and Holly on Poplar St. This is virtually in downtown W-S.

The parade starts at 12:30 and they are expecting it to be over by around 1ish. I think at that point we'll all just meet back up in a nearby parking lot and head over to Miller Park for our 2nd year Anniversary Cook Out.

I'll try to post a Google Maps link of the location.

This parade is being held to benefit animals, so if you are an animal lover, please feel free to bring yours along with you for the parade!

I'll update this post to keep track of who all is going to go.

There will be 2 of us available for the parade. My other half does not have to work that day, so count 2 for my car.

A little update... at this point they aren't really requesting that we put anything on or in our cars, we're just there to add some color, some spirit, and some smiles to the parade... all of which I'm sure we can do very well.

To the drop top owners, as in any parade there might be a couple of people riding in convertibles. Is that even possible in the MINI, at least to sit up higher than tucked away in the back seats? If so, we may need some volunteers for this, though right now it's not a real request. And what you do with your car is completely up to you.

Well, they have scheduled a game for that day, but it is at 9am, so I can make Winston by about 12:15pm. I just hope I am relatively clean at the end of the game.

Sherry, we've got you down on the list. We've just been updating the first post with the constantly updated list. Sounds like you are bringing quite a group along!!! :)

I'm impressed with how many people have turned out for this. I emailed the ladies at BB&T to let them know roughly how many cars/people/pets we plan on adding to the parade. I have a feeling they will be very happy with our turnout!

I may stop by since I'm going to be in Winston anyway getting new tires in the morning. I'm not bringing my dog since he's way too big to fit in the Mini and he only has three legs so its diffucult for him to get in and out of the car unless its our Volvo wagon.

Well crud. I thought the parade was going to start at 1pm. I'm not sure I can make it before 12. I'll be leaving Chapel Hill at 10:45 at the earliest. Unless it is raining; then I will have plenty of time.

True! Maybe they have a "Rent-A-Hound" in return for perhaps publicizing their program? We almost adopted one a few years ago ... until Gary thought more about taking him/her for walkies no matter what type of weather at 11 PM at night! LOL

Looking forward to great weather and a great day.

The cookout! I just realized right after the parade I will have to hightail it back to Charlotte. I have tickets to the race that night. I am going to bring my sister as opposed to the German Shepard. She may be less messy and does drool over the Mini, just keeps it under control. I am going to meet her up there since she lives in Greensboro these days.

So what's the plan Stan? Are we gonna meet somewhere before we go to the staging area or just meet there? I just gotta figure out when I'm gonna have time to wash my car(still got bugs from Dragon... Ewwww) and how early I need to leave GSO.

Also, is there alcohol allowed at the park we're going to? As in, can we bring beer? If not it's totally cool, I just like frosty barley pop with my grilled stuffs :D

I checked out the location earlier. I'm going to try to find it on Google Maps if possible. It is up to everyone else on what to do about the staging area. I'd be happy to meet at Miller Park no later than 11:15 and head to the parade from there. That might simplify things for the group on the return trip to Miller Park for the Anniversary Cook Out.

The park doesn't allow alcohol, sorry... I'd like a few cold ones too! :)

I'd be down to meet at the park first. I assume that's easier to find than going aimlessly downtown since I don't think I've ever been to downtown W-S.

And no worries on the beer. Probably for the best anyway.
