 Welcome to the first Triangle Scavenger Hunt!

When: October 9, 2010 (Rain or shine)
Where: Brier Creek Commons - near the movie theater (early arrivals look for the blue Nissan 350Z convertible)
Time: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

I have been planning this event for months and it could potentially be turned into a bi-annual event if turn-out and enthusiasm are high. :happy-smiley:
The scavenger hunt is team oriented. You will need a pilot (driver) and co-pilot (clue reader, navigator) to compete. It is suggested, but not mandatory, to have a backseat driver to help with certain clues.

Things you will need:

Digital camera
Driver's License, Registration/Insurance

MINI (If your MINI is unavailable, you'll need to team up with someone else.)

Pen/Pencil

This scavenger hunt was created to be too long for any team to complete within the time slot, so there should be no frustrations on trying to get all the clues. The hunt takes place throughout the Triangle (not just Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) and any rule-breaking will lead to team disqualification.

Rules:

All teams must participate in a MINI
All teams must be 2-4 people (up to 5 for Clubman teams)

You must bring your license to the sign-in table
No speeding (:ponder:"how could i possibly get caught speeding?" - TBA at the event )

Late arrivals at the finish will result in point deductions and there will be a cut-off time to tally scores and give away prizes

Sponsors:

OCDetailing - planning, coordinating & prizes
OutMotoring - prizes
Detailer's Domain - prizes
Craven - prizes

You don't have to sign up to attend, it's just helps to know how many are coming.

Attending:

1. Hammerette +1 (hosting, not participating)
2. Dirt +1-2 (maybe)
3. unc-v +1-2
4. MINIFIED
5. colejd
6. Thom +2
7. doodlez +1
8. dogtired +1
9. machvvv +1

yea, votes weren't exactly rushing in for a date, so after a month of voting I took the day with the highest amount :)
now we just need to get more attendees :D

Added to the calendar -- sign up, folks, it's gonna be a blast!

Any guesstimate on what time the event will end? We have somewhere to be that evening, but it would be fun for Domino to actually participate with me in one of these instead of being the organizer for once!

going with an end time of 2:00 PM so we can avoid an extremely late lunch - there will be plenty of lunch options available nearby

yea... missing 2.5 hours wouldn't be a good way to start a scavenger hunt... sorry you can't make it :(

OK, this is my confirmation that Diane and I will be attending for sure.
We won the last one we entered, hopefully this goes as well. (of course, Raleigh is not our hometown either)

Unfortunately, it's looking like I won't make it. I still might, but probably not. Bummer.

haha, don't worry about it!
I moved here a year ago, this is my way of learning what's in the area... some things may be difficult for people that have lived here for years because I have put things in here from blatantly obvious to solving the clue to whatever it is you are looking for... I also found things that I thought others may not have known existed or things that might be great for city tours... you never know >:)

example of blatantly obvious (if you lived in Texas): Show us your MINI with the Dallas airport - DFW
example of solving the clue (if you lived in Texas): Show us your MINI with the giant spinning Lone Star - answer: Lone Star ferris wheel at the State Park

sorry to hear you may not make it, I'll keep you as a maybe and if show up GREAT!
if not and everybody enjoys the event, I'll make a new hunt for another year and we'll look for you then :)

jeees, reviewing this thread look like alot of the attendees will be teams that have won a scavenger hunt previously ... what kinda competition will I have? I'm still working on not backtracking on stuff I missed :-)
But I'm looking forward to it .. will be a great MINI week with Triangle Dinner Thursday and Triangle Scavenger hunt on Saturday .. I'm past due for all things MINI .. am so looking forward to next week.

Ashley, I know you are hoping for a headcount, but if folks find they are available Saturday AM, it's OK just to show up, right?

Absolutely! The head count was to give me a rough estimate of how many to expect and to give the sponsors a guesstimate of how many teams were showing up so they'd know how much to donate as prizes.
You do NOT have to sign up to show up and participate, if you're free on Saturday, come on out and enjoy the scavenging fun - the more the merrier!

3 days left before the hunt!
My checklist is finally complete, I've printed enough clue sheets for 15 teams and I've got the prizes sorted into their respective categories

Make sure you bring a writing utensil, camera and license!

WOW!! I'm not sure how in the world something that was an idea on paper with a planned date of this Saturday could have possibly been planned for a more perfect weather weekend than is predicted for this Saturday .. sunny and low 80's without a drop of rain in site .. amazing!

If the weather is any indication .. this is going to be an awesome event! No excuses MINI people in Charlotte, or Greenville, or other reaches across the state, what a beautiful driving weekend, join us!!

(somebody's gotta give Dogtired some competition and I'm obviously not the one!)

My stepson is supposed to be here tomorrow. I think we're going to be a 3 person team (I'm making him get out of bed before noon)... Hmmmm, who sits in the back? Not It!!!

Mere hours away .. and looking to be a beautiful day.
So let's say you get up this morning and have a choice .. yard work, or a MINI scavenger hunt .. why you should choose the MINI event, you can even *win* something (you know that's not the case with yard work!)

Or go ahead, do the yard work instead .. that'll just increase my odds of winning .. :girl_wacko:

We had a good turn out of 6 teams, the weather was perfect and everyone seemed to have had a good time.
I had some good suggestions and will use them at the next scavenger hunt I plan (probably next year). I'll also increase the amount of time to hunt, include more scavenge items and change the points/grading system - your suggestions were heard.
Sorry the grading took so long, now with a little more experience I have a better plan for next time.
Thanks everyone for coming out and following the rules, I hope you truly enjoyed it!
Congrats to Team Cali or Bust for winning, I hope the handstand was worth it!

And thank you to our sponsors for donating all the prizes at the event.

Had a great time .. and would have said the same even if I hadn't come home with a bucket full o' goodies .. thanks, Ashley for organizing, it was a lot of fun. It's always nice to have events that non-MINI people who are willing to be navigator victims can thoroughly enjoy, also .. the suggestions for "next time" are surely minimal as it was pretty well organized and had lots of variety for picking up points ..

and for those of you *just dying* of curiousity to see that "handstand" photo, ya know, the one that "won" it (just kidding!) here ya go .. my navigator pullin' out all the stops in the name of competition ... :girl_wacko:

Looks like an awesome hunt. I had to miss this one due to already purchased tickets to the Durham beer festival.

I have to admit, I had a good day too.
