Hi,

I am the newbie, I guess. Don't even own a MINI yet, but will soon.

I am in the process of buying a Cooper S hatchback and am interested in getting the limited slip diff option. I tend to sport a lot and hate it when the inside wheel starts spinning.

Has anyone had a issues with reliability with the LSD and is it really necessary?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Hey Dave, welcome to the club!

If you are even considering getting an LSD then I say go for it. The cost of the option is only a fraction of what you will pay to have one installed in the future, and if you think you need one now, than you will be very glad you got one.

I ordered it on my 2006 MCS and I love it! I had a loaner car for a few days once and decided to see what the difference was between a non-LSD car and mine. Every turn I took was slower in the non-LSD car because of the inside wheelspin.

In my opinion, the LSD is a "Must Have Option."

Dave,
parts and labot to install an LSD in an 02-06 is about $2200, I do not know what they will cost for an R56 and no telling when it will be available in the aftermarket. Like Drew said, if it is something you are even remotely considering, go ahead and get it now while its "cheap". The factory units are a clutch type, not quite as good as a Quaife, but unless you are racing and every .001 sec. counts, you will not know the difference.
Congrats on the car, and welcome to the club :)
