If anyone can come out today to VIR (Sun.) you'll get to see some honest-to-God vintage Minis racing around the track! There's even a little red one like KillerKar that is SO plucky we were cheering ourselves silly yesterday afternoon as it CAUGHT UP to some cars that were, initially, faster than it was! There are several classic Minis there this weekend, including a wagon (!) and they are just a TREAT to watch going around the track. They are giving no quarter, either!

So come out if you can. I think it's supposed to be a tad bit cooler than it has been. Gary and I have been at this thing since Fri., and we're just about given out, but the main races are today and I'd never forgive myself if I didn't see those cute little cars hauling butt around the track one more time!

Also, the Red Cross is still doing the lunchtime laps for a $25 donation so let's get those "new" MINIs on the track!

See ya there!

Update to yesterday (for Gary and I). No we did NOT get to drive "the Big Track" after everything was said & done ... I don't know if there was some kind of communication snafu or what but it didn't happen. There were about 5 MINIs lined up at the track gate after the last race and Lee showed up and said something about there'd been an announcement (? - I'm not sure about this) that the Club wasn't going to get to drive on the big track so I guess he tried to arrange it & just couldn't.

My question now is: Doesn't the club do a specific day for us at VIR to drive the track, etc.? or am I just dreaming this up?

Anyway, driving the Patriot Track yesterday was a BLAST in itself, so it wasn't a total washout and I think we ALL looked great as we drove! Glad to see such a great turnout!

I also talked with Lee and he said that there had been an announcement, but I never heard it and I had the radio on. But, having said that, the Patriot course was way more fun then the full track.

There was NO announcement, I'm convinced of that. I think that was just CYA (with all due respect - hey, no biggie. Just admit it & move on. No need to whitewash it - we'd all have understood, I think, wouldn't we?)

Hey, mebbe next time, eh? *crosses fingers*

Anyway, yes, since that was my VERY first time driving ANY sort of track yesterday, the Patriot track was exactly what I needed, because it kept those curve apexes coming at me (and I have an excellent instructor/navigator in my husband, Gary) :) so I had no time to be nervous or doubtful of my abilities. I just HAVE to say ...

I ROCKED!

That was my yearly immodest driving moment. Ya'll forgive, ok? ;-)

Having been on both tracks, the Patriot is perfect for MINIs, the big track is a HP track...here are some pics of the vintage cars and a mini on the track, sorry, zoom stinks on my lil' camera...

Did anyone get pics of the MINIs on the Patriot Track? If so, please let me know - I'd love to have some copies (my official photographer was, at that time, in Killer's passenger's seat, yelling things at me like, "Push, push, push! Go! Accelerate! Drop your gear, now go go go go GO, push push PUSH!" and I was yelling back, "I'm driving a MINI, not going to Lamaze Class!") :D
