Hey gang a good friend of mine who lives in Hickory has gone just about as wild about his Miata as We have on our Minis. We haven't been able to connect due to schedules, but he forwarded this email to me:

"I'm helping a guy put a rollbar in his Miata on Saturday, and Sandy and I are going to a car show in Lenoir on Saturday evening.

The car show is an every weekend event, usually has a couple hundred cars if the weather is good. Lots of Detroit Heavy Metal, and other stuff too, some purely show, most are street cars. If you guys want, come on up and we'll all go
together. There's another couple coming with their Miata. We'll get something to eat near the show, just hang and look at cars. They close off all the streets downtown and there is a good pizza shop.

My buddy and I may park in the show area, and either of your Mini's will definitely draw a crowd.

If you want to put 616 West Ave, NW, Lenoir NC into your GPS, it will get you to the show. Piccolo's is a pizza/Italian place next to the show. We can meet you there, if you want to come.

The short way that Google shows is west on I-40 to Statesville, then US64 west through Taylorsville into Lenoir. 70 miles. Not the crookedest of roads, but the show can be pretty good. All it needs is a few Mini's and Miata's to spice it up. "

I'm not trying to play tour guide and I can't promise it will be a big turnout, but that is what WE are doing Saturday night if anyone wants to tag along.

We live one mile from the I-40 route 801 juction and can meet at the LOWES Parking lot.

I will advise on a time when he calls me back.

Leaving from the parking lot of Lowes off 801 at 4:30 to meet my buddy for dinner at 6:00. He said it wraps up at dark, so it shouldnt be a late night.

We took I-40 to 64 North into Lenoir, which took about an hour. We cruised with the top open, radio pumping and 72 degree temps. We had blue skies 20 minutes after we got there and saw about 100 cars, which they said was half as ususal due to the spotty weather.

The streets were blocked off, music was played and a lot of the shops were open. They have an Ice cream shop (for Twister) and we ate pizza at a place called Piccalo's that must have had a dozen antique coke machines.

It was worth the drive and they do it e very other Saturday night, weather permitting. Veronica's car was a big hit and there was constantly someone peering inside and commenting on the size of the speedo. Honestly, I think many residents were seeing a MINI upclose for the first time. Her graphics and wheels got all the kids going and it was nice to see Vern lit up as people commented on "her" car. The 15 clowns sticker got a lot of laughs too, since we stuck it inside the third door jam.

I told my buddy we would be back and it would be nice to have 5+ MINIS to outnumber the 5 Miatas!

Of course, this is where I live. Haha. I have heard about the show, but never got a chance to be in town for it. I will be back in town for a bit in October. I am thinking of what I want to do. MSSD??? Maybe.
