One of our members, Domino, is an event planner by career and as put together many road rallies in Florida and has graciously designed a MiniCoop Road Raleigh Road Rally concept. This is a rough draft of what he had in mind and presented to us at the Tranquil Triangle Thursdays this week. This is meant to be in good fun and a chance to get out and have meet and mingle with other MINI enthusiasts. There has also been an interest to have sponsors for prizes. If this is something we are interested in the contact email for Domino is listed below.
MinCoop Road Rally Raleigh Teaser
Car Rallies are scavenger, treasure and puzzle hunts all combined. The MINCOOP R3 will be all this and more. Crews of 2 to 4 will pile into MINI COOPERS and navigate, solve puzzles, find clues and get items in a time (not speed) intensive race around the Triangle.
The objective is to spend 2 to 3 hours driving around the Triangle and accomplishing things – and therefore getting awarded points-off predetermined list of adventures. The last part of the MinCoop R3 puzzle will be to find the final destination. Prizes and Merriment will ensue.
No precision work or intense competition, just a fun and unique experience that will be both a creative endeavor and build team “dynamix”.
What to expect? Checkpoints, crazy and scenic routes, visual clues, a digital photo hunt, themed fun, trivia, mysteries, use of general knowledge of the Triangle area, items to retrieve from local merchants. Mission Impossible and More! The many types of Rallies that are out there may or may not be a part of the MinCoop R3. You’ll have to wait and see.
Housekeeping:
This event will not be sponsored by any individual or organization.
Mature drivers with license and insurance only will be at the wheel.
Speeding, stealing, vandalism, or any and all disruptive behavior is prohibited and all Crews should sign a fair play oath and waiver of liability to begin the event.

Hey, everyone just wants to enjoy the MINIs, be safe and have a great time.

Hey all, thanks for posting this and it's great to see that we have some interest! I meant to post this myself, but things have been crazy for me (I'll be moving in a few days).
My boyfriend, Domino, is the brain behind this event, and he would like to try to get some dates down for the rally and get more information out to you as well. At this time we are looking at August 11 or 18 (both Saturdays). I haven't seen anything already planned for those dates, but if you are aware of any conflicting events already scheduled, please let me know. Domino is also planning to provide some lodging and camping info for any out-of-towners who want to participate.
As soon as we have a date pinned down, we'll post more details about the start location and what to expect. Feel free to PM me with any questions, and pass the word along!

I'm happy to see progress with this event. I'd like to throw an idea out there...
Because we're wanting to see more dual-club events, why don't we post this on NAM in an open forum and let this event be planned as just a NC area event, not under either club?
Anyway, what do you all think of doing this event in that way?

I think that may be the best way to handle it. :) Oh and I'm down for the Rally. Let's get some dates lined up. :D

FYI, I don't know if this would make a difference, but move in for the local universities is the week between those two dates, culminating with returners moving in on the 18th. If your "Triangle knowledge" involves anything with the schools around, that might be a challenge.

Awesome! I think posting the event under NC area events instead of one club or other would be fine. We can post anywhere you think we'll reach others who might be interested. The more participants we have, the more fun it will be!

Sounds good to me! Just post it on NAM in the NC Events area at the bottom of the East group. Post a link on here to the thread on NAM and we'll let that be where both M2C2 and THMMC work together on planning this one. We'll let you guys and anyone else who wants to help plan this take the lead. Thanks! :)

OK, I just posted the info on NAM here: http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1595986#post1595986
I didn't see a specific forum for NC Events, but posted under the Southeast - Carolinas forum (which seems kind of quiet, so we might need to keep bumping it so people see it). If this isn't the place you had in mind, let me know and I'll re-post it where it's supposed to be.
I hope everyone's having a great "hump day"!

This looks like a blast, wife and I are definitely in.
May I suggest to the route planners to have at least a few splits or occassions to go to multiple things in an undetermined order... to avoid the whole thing being a long parade of people just following each other?

I believe that it will be set up as such that everyone can choose what they do and when, so everyone will be going in their own direction instead of a big long parade. ;)
I'll be there! I'd like to have a navigator from the area though!
Might be able to make this happen. Email Domino at the address listed on the bottom of the flier!

Yippee, I know Domino is happy to accept any help he can get. Just shoot him an email. There is always a possibility that we might find a stray non-MINI-owner or two to ride with you as well as TWISTER.
Anyone who is planning to definitely attend, feel free to email Domino using the address at the bottom of the flier if you need additional info or have any questions.
EDIT: I just found out that the event is designed so that you do not need extensive local knowledge to complete the puzzles and tasks, nor is it even a necessity to have teammates. There are some items that might be useful in any situation where you are unfamiliar with roads in an area (such as maps), but this is not required. The idea is that this type of rally can be picked up and done in just about any other place, not just the Triangle. So, for anyone coming from out of town that might think you are at a disadvantage, have no fear!

Hi all, we have been trying to place fliers on parked MINIs we see around town. Unfortunately, I don't see many that often, so I thought I'd throw this out for any of you who might see some as well. I've attached a file with the fliers here. I've been writing the club website on the back of them.
For anyone wanting to help out and volunteer or anyone with questions, be sure to e-mail Domino at theimagiro at gmail. I have no idea how much/what kind of "work" he needs, but he'll be able to give you more info on that.

Great! She will have a blast. I know most of the people in my family, including the brain behind this event, get pretty sick of me talking MINI. But this will definitely be fun for everyone. My parents will actually be visiting this weekend, so I'm looking forward to immersing them in MINI-ness as they will be accompanying me at the rally. :D

Those of you who missed it, missed a FANTASTIC event! Domino did an incredible job of putting together a scanvenger/puzzle type rally that was fun, challenging, a little maddening, entertaining for those looking to have fun, and ultra-competitive for those trying to win...
13 (I think) intrepid teams started at 3PM - and it was nearly 7PM before the dust cleared...
Pam Hughes and Chris took home the trophy - after TYING Team Blimey in total points (1940 out of 4000 'possible' - which wouldn't really be possible...) - they won the tie breaker trivia deathmatch. Great, great job, guys - cause I know how hard our team worked to get that many points! They graciously split the grand prize with us (after I got my 7 year old to throw a tantrum ;)) but I couldn't get Pam to saw the trophy in half. :D (just kidding Pam - you won it fair and square - and there's always next year...)
Domino - THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

I am exhausted...
Why? Because of all laughter and fun this event was. For all those that missed it, it was a special, well put together and organized event that has me still laughing as I type this. A true sign of success. I am still filled with happiness and giddy from today. The smiles are still lasting long after I left tonights dinner. All the people I met today were extremely nice and outgoing. The organizer Domino really out did himself in this event and kudo's all around to his crew. This needs to be a do again event. Very well thought out and well organized. The tasks, as many maybe difficult, proved very fun and left alot of imagination to throw in our own twisted humor. I have stories I can tell the grandkids and other MINI minds alike.
There isn't enough thank you's and appreciation for the job Domino and crew did. Thank you very much as its appreciated. Great job, fantastic... Truly awesome !!!
Now as we close out this day on Saturday night, all I can think about is...
when is the next one ???

Domino and crew, thank you so much for such a fun day!!! What a lot of work you did to prepare for and coordinate the rally yesterday! Great job! It was great to meet new folks yesterday and see old friends again! The rally was simply a blast. Very challenging and fun. I think the most difficult part for us (besides figuring out where the finish line was!! ;-) , was to get both team members and the MINI in the photo with the thing you were actually trying to photgraph!!! Occasionally we found a bystander or another competitor to take a photo of us, but in most of the shots, our heads are really big and up close!!! We almost got run over getting the giant acorn photo!!! It was so much fun!!! We are proud to bring home the trophy!! Domino made the trophy himself! What a hard working guy! And everyone signed it! We will cherish it forever!!! Team Blimey sure gave us a run for our money!! However, they did have a caped superhero on their team!! I have posted photos in my gallery, but was not sure where else to post them so that others could find them easily.
Good work everybody!!

I want to send out a huge thanks to all who participated this Saturday! What a blast it was to see everyone running around town like mad and smiles all around. I must say "well done" to Team HMS Gruvy (Pam and Chris) and Team Blimey for doing an awesome job with the puzzles! It was great to see some new faces as well as some familiar ones. I really hope everyone had as good a time as I did (playing driver, navigator and soothsayer/puzzle solver since the rest of my team [my parents] are from FL and have no NC trivia knowledge whatsoever). Next time I'll relinquish the driving to my Dad so I can do more navigating without going crazy. ;)
Please send any feedback to Domino at his email address (on the flier) so he can tweak and improve the event for next year, or maybe even come up with some ideas for yet another event.
I will post pictures in my gallery once I have recovered from this crazy weekend (hopefully tomorrow). I look forward to seeing you all at future events!

Sounds like I missed a good event- congrats to Pam and Chris! I was in Asheville looking for cooler weather (no luck) and spending a weekend away with my wife. We caught Chris Issak in concert at Biltmore House-great show and I saw a good number of Mini's on I40 heading east bound. We were driving my wife's car so the Mini wave was not in effect.
