Since the Triad area has its Manic Mondays the folks over in the Triangle have decided its time we start doing something similar... Tranquil Thursday :D

To start out, we will be having small gatherings on the second Thursday of each month beginning June 2007. The current meeting place is the outer parking lot in front of Target in Brier Creek Commons on Brier Creek Parkway in Raleigh. This spot is right next to I-540 and is easily accessible from every direction. There is enough room for lots of MINI's, plenty of places to eat, and lots of people we can show off our latest mods to ;)

This month, the "parking lot social" will continue until at least 7:30 - then interested parties can move on for drinks and/or food.

As we gain momentum, the group can decide on other activities to take place, other meeting areas etc. If there is enough interest, hopefully we can expand the gatherings into a weekly event similar to what the Triad has with the Manic Monday meets.

Those of us in the Triangle want to build involvement in the area, and think this will be a great way for everyone to get out and enjoy the MINI experience.

There are tons of MINI owners in the Triangle, and it would be great if we could get everyone involved in some fun times.

Additionally, we will try to get the word out on other forums so people who don't normally visit our club pages can hopefully join our little gatherings as well.

When:
The second Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm

Next meeting of the Triangle gang is Thursday, July 12th. Please vote on where you'd like to eat. You can vote for more than one place if you'd like (this helps a lot actually - if folks have different first choices but similar second choices, we're more likely to please more people this way...) I'll close voting early next week when we have an idea on attendance and I'll call ahead to reserve tables.

I'll also send an email reminder to the whole area list asking them to vote as well if they plan to attend.

Look forward to seeing everyone next week!

Hey guys, I've scheduled a work trip to Raleigh so I can make it, however, now my boss and another guy are going too. ;-( I'm not sure I can shake them to make the meet, and I'll be driving the sedan, however, I'll keep an eye on the voting, (doesn't matter to me), and see where you end up.

Please post an address for the restaurant, once determined? Thanks!

Note to self: "Mom" is always right. As for my boss, not so much, ;-) I've lost him to some "wine fllight hoopla" so one down, one to go and I'll probably just bring him with me. He's "cool".

Now the only remaining items: I'll be driving my sedan, don't hate it b/c it's beautiful ;-) and I'll need an address for the chosen restaurant to get directions, pls and tks!

Dave - map is in the first post on this thread - all the restaurants are right there in the parking lot of this shopping center. I'll post the specific restaurant on Wednesday. And we'll meet at the Target from 6:30 to 7:00.

I should be able to be there. We have a new puppy at home so the only issue may be if my wife gets stuck at work or something.

I would be fine with any of the places above so I am not going to vote. I see Johnny Carinos is leading and I do think they have some decent area to the side where you might be able to actually hear someone.

BlimeyCabrio
July 11th, 2007, 11:24 AM
Based on popular vote - we have a reservation for 7PM at Carino's at Brier Creek Commons (http://www.carinos.com/location/restinfo.aspx?rid=71) - they're holding the side room for us that's to the left as you come in the door. (Reservation is under my name - Penny). Same place half of us met last month - a nice place to meet and talk!

So we'll meet as planned in front of the Target - outer lot - around 6:30 (some folks including me will probably be there a bit early as last month) - and will move the party to Carino's at 7PM. :)

Look forward to seeing lots of folks and MINIs there!

Hey everyone, sorry I can't make it out this evening. I was hoping to be able to make it to remind you all, and let all the newcomers know, that the MinCoop Road Rally (http://www.tarheelminis.org/showthread.php?t=678) is still in the works. Check out the thread for details, and I hope you all have fun this evening!

17 MINIs, plus MidnightDave's Lexus. About 30 people. 15 stayed for dinner at Carino's and had great conversation!

Really cool: Only 4 of the MINIs were repeats from last month - so we picked up 13 new MINIs this month, and 9 new MINIs last month, plus four from the first meet - in three meetings, 25 different MINIs and their owners (and often copilots) have turned out in little old Raleigh where we don't even have a MINI dealership nearby...

LOTS of folks are excited about the MiniCoop Road Rally!!!

I'm planning a Raleigh area drive for September - to fit between the Rally and the Mabry Mill Run.... we're rolling!

Last night was our first event with Tarheel MINI Motoring Club and it was a blast!!! We were the only non-S Cooper there and we have no fancy packages under the hood but we were totally accepted all the same!! We met some great people and saw some AWESOME cars! Thanks to Paul, our Crew Chief, for arranging a fun event. We hope to make many more! Glad to have MINI stuff going on in Raleigh! Can't wait for the rally!

Good turn out for a casual get together, I enjoyed meeting so many of you-I was the guy in the red short with the CR/W MCS with added coconut scent! (my cocomats still smell like the cocnuts they were made from)

Thanks for putting everything together Paul (Blimey)!

Thanks guys - it wouldn't be a party if nobody came! Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to come out the past couple of months! It shows that we have enough interest to do MORE stuff that's EVEN MORE FUN - though I think the informal meets have lotsa fun, too!

For those of you who didn't stay for dinner - no worries - but dinner IS where lots of fun and friendship is made - I hope you'll try to join us for eats soon! We really do have a good time and make new friends!

It's funny - I've now had SEVERAL folks comment on how this group is NOTHING like the (fill in your favorite stuffy snooty car brand here) group they attended previously - they always talk about how much more laid back and FUN their fellow MINI owners are to be around. :)

It's cool a young couple who just moved from CT that day saw the MINIs and stopped by, too! This car is such a cult classic in the making...

Over all this one belongs in the win column. A great success as many people showed up to bear the 104 plus degree heat. Afterwards we ate Italian which proved to satisfy both taste and hunger. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting some really great people and look forward to motoring along side them in the future and future events...

I hope each and everyone of you got home safe... The lighting provided a nice light show on the way home.

Lets do this again next month and see if we can possibly up the ante to a few times each month by choosing a different place or restaurant... just an idea...

BlimeyCabrio
August 9th, 2007, 10:09 PM
Yep - I lost count but about 15 MINIs, 2 repeat attendees who were temporarily MINI-less :(, and about 25 people... much better turnout than I expected, given the heat and the Rally coming up on Saturday! And a bunch of NEW folks again this month - so the size of the active community here just keeps growing - we're probably up to 35 different MINIs and owners who have participated so far!

MINI thanks to Roger and Brian and wives for driving over and bringing some Triad/Alamance luv.

We're at it again! This coming Thursday, September 13th!

Special guest will be Dan Zipkin of Grassroots Garage - Dan will be there to discuss any MINI mechanical questions or mod plans you may have - and may bring a few parts to look at and talk about. Don't miss this opportunity to meet Dan and get his expert advice on how to make your MINI all it can be!

If you would like Dan to bring you anything from his shop, call him directly at 336-476-8551. Probably too late for any more special orders - but he may have what you want in stock! If not, buy it from him anyway - I'm sure someone will be making a run by the shop before the Triangle Mod Party on September 29th!

On Thursday the 13th, I'll also have more info on the Mod Party, the Mabry Mill Run (October 13th) and the Fall Dragon Run (MINIs Slay the Sleeping Dragon - November 2-4). I plan to coordinate convoys from the Raleigh area for both the Mabry Mill and Dragon events!

Hope to see lots of you from the Triangle area on the 13th!

There were a couple of other guys who were planning to come to the mod party and do pulleys, but they can't come now... RudyT has pulley experience and plans to be there... Not sure everything you'll need - there will be lots of tools there (I have a 3/8 torque wrench if needed) - you'll need to make sure you have a puller. WoooHoooo!!!

We had a great time again tonight - 20 MINIs were in attendance (a new record I think), plus Dan Zipkin's BMW - and about 30 folks. Some new folks, many familiar faces, lots of great conversation. Thanks to Dan (and Mark Bintliff) for bringing out some parts for folks to look at and discuss. Nine of us dined afterward at Uno and had a great time!

Lots of folks said they planned to attend the Mod Party! The more the merrier - IF you plan to attend, please RSVP on the Mod Party Thread (http://www.tarheelminis.org/showthread.php?t=762) so I'll have an idea of how many folks to plan for!

Thanks to everyone who joined us this month!

Just go to my hotel in GARNER, duh, knew it was something with an 'R' ;-) It was great to see all the different flavors and styles of MINIs and mods...

Thanks again to Paul for organizing this and everybody for making it fun and informative. Dan and his apprentice now have me pining after that M7 coilover set up and Paul after an Invidia exhaust--I'm guessing we'll see that exhaust on ol' Blimey soon and unless my lottery picking skills get better, I'll just stare lustfully at the M7 stuff the next time I'm at Dan's shop. ;-)

I'll see some of you Saturday for the MS volunteerism, and others at the mod party, probably most at Mabry Mill, and then a few at the Dragon--what a great club, and what a great bunch of folks!

Another great success at MINI Meet Night in the Triangle... As always great to see familiar faces and new ones. A huge thanks for Dan from Grassroots coming along to show off new toys... Now if I can only figure out how to win the lottery... I'll be set.

MidnightDave said it best... A great club with a great bunch of folks that make this possible. Hope to see many of you in the bends, or straights (US roads arrgg!)

I would like to thank everyone for coming out for this little event. It certainly is nice that good numbers of triangle folk are having events that rival the turnouts of the Manic Monday crowd in the triad area.

We have had quite a few people passing by and wanting to know what the deal was. This is something that I really enjoy and I hope many more MINI owners and non owners as well, come on out and join the festivities.

One thing I would like to do over the next few events is have a few photo shoots. Ideally something like a "family" portrait of each MINI and his/her owner, as well as some group photos and for those that want to participate, a magazine layout type of thing with photos of mods and a possibly a small writeup too.

This will take some effort I suppose, the parking lot at Target isn't the most fashionable place for a photoshoot. If anyone knows of some place that would make good backdrops for such a thing, let us know here. A few ideas I came up with are on the dam at Falls Lake or possibly one of the parking lots in Umstead forest (I love asphalt, but trees and/or water makes for a better backdrop). :D

If you have any other suggestions please post them!

Okay, I'll come clean. Paul's insurance agent and guardian angel listen up!

Paul is a wimp and doesn't know how to drive. He barely had his car above 11 miles an hour the whole weekend. He brakes to a stop before curves. He cried constantly because he had to frequently pull off and let everybody else pass anytime he was in front of anybody in any vehicle, including a 60 ft tractor trailer full of mattresses. He kept the top up the whole time, and the heater blasting. He does not even own a Union Jack do rag, so it certainly was never on his head. Oh, and nobody likes him, so he didn't have any fun the entire weekend. He wouldn't even lead his own ride, he just stayed at the lodge playing cribbage with some old guy with no teeth. Jason had nothing good to say about him either. Don't even think he chugged maple syrup at the dinner--he was a no show.

That pretty much sums it up.

That was fun, a bit lower reception that prior months, but I think the cold weather is actually a big player in that.

We had some 8 MINIs or so there, and after shivering in the parking lot and comparing exhaust burbles for a bit we retired to "Ben's Place", which was a fantastic pub-restaurant nearby (recomended by, um, Ben actually) and had a really fantastic time chatting about all manner of random topics from military windshields to iPhone screens. Food was excellent as well.

I was thinking we might "re-tune" the days & times for the winter... probably weekend during the day, just so we aren't standing around in the dark freezing.

As we have one more on December 13th actually "scheduled" and Blimey's Sonic Spree 2 days later... I guess the best time to make this switch in time/day will be after those.

So what does everyone think?

BlimeyCabrio

Yeah - I vote we move to 2nd Saturday of each month for Dec-March... unless folks REALLY want to come out in the dark in December...

We can pick some different places (since you hate Sonic :)) for Jan-March... I'd love to coordinate a DRIVE with each one... we could do one back in Apex at Xios (like the Fall 2006 meet)...

RudyT

I second this notion as those with long work schedules and crazy schedules can attend.

During the week is difficult and yeilds a long drive for those who live slightly further than the RDU area prior to a Friday workday.

This also gives us the ability to plan out meet-eat-drive scenario's. And once a month is perfect. Just the fix many are looking for...

Hi All,

Is the TTT still on for 5/8? Just wanting to confirm the current time/location details since most of the threads that reference it seem pretty old and/or got sidetracked onto other topics. Sorry if I missed any more recent notices on the forum somewhere.

Thanks for any updated info. Looking forward to it.

Yep... the main TTT thread is rather long, so we try to always keep the first post in the thread up to date. As a general rule, I get there a bit early around 6ish.

People mingle until about 7:30pm or so then group up to get some chow if they wish.

It will be nice to have a Clubman there, I am sure you will get lots of compliments & questions :D ... I just saw my first one in the wild about 2 days ago.

Looks like we might have some rain issues today (05-08-08)... and we don't really have a rain policy

I guess we will fly by the seat of our pants on this one. If it does happen to be raining, search the parking lot for MINI's as we will probably migrate to one of the fine food joints nearby for shelter.

Anyone have any suggestions as to which one just in case?

What about a parking deck? Maybe meet at RDU for 45 min and then go out for dinner? Other decks off the top of my head include Crabtree valley mall, downtown near Fayetteville St and Moore Square, Rex Hospital,...

That's hilarious... I'm in Albany this week, too... sitting in the airport right now waiting to fly home... and I ran by Keeler just to check them out a couple of nights ago.... not much to look at compared to Flow... actually, if MINI calls that a dealership (it's a little corner carved out of the BMW showroom), then why the #$(@*&$@# can't they put one in the Triangle.... grrrr....

I used to live in Albany, and a year in Troy, about 5 minutes from Keeler...They would not give me a job 14 years ago because I did not have "dealer" experience. WOW, things sure would have been different if they had. :{-

Driving home from Raleigh last night, I drove right through the tornadoes at the airport in GSO. I actually saw 2 of the 3 overturned trucks get blown over on I40 at Sandy Ridge Rd. Luckily, I made it home safe, but a few cars I passed did not.

Dam Straight about that.... I had to go up there in January 5 years ago on business... when I walked outside the airport terminal, the windchill was -20F and the breath froze in my nostrils... coldest I had ever been in my life at that point... and I immediately understood why the Triangle area is being invaded by people from Syracuse.

Yep - those are the reasons we picked Brier Creek originally - pretty easy to get to from anywhere... so we draw folks from the Triad, from Greenville, as well as all parts of the Triangle.

There is NOTHING preventing ANYONE from starting up another Triangle-area meet on a different week, at a different location... The Triad group meets WEEKLY... I'd love to see us have 2-3 different meets (at different locations) each month. Works best to have each one "locked in" to a location just to build momentum over time - folks know when and where it happens. Takes a little while to build momentum, but if anyone wants to organize an alternate date/location, I'll send out an email blast announcing it!

MDK
June 9th, 2008, 09:24 PM
I guess I'm pretty much the "Greenville" part of the above but I know my around Raleigh pretty well so if anyone wants to move the location I can/will find it. I don't think I can make it this week as I had to be in Durham all day today and I'm afraid gas has got to the point where two triangle trips in one week has become too pricy- that really sucks! I've still got the next beer run in mind!

Hey guys, I wanted to try to come out this month, but alas it appears I won't be able to make it yet again - too much on my plate the next few weeks.

Casteye mentioned doing a meet in downtown Raleigh, and I would definitely be up for that! I used to live very close to Brier Creek, but now live in downtown Raleigh. It is much more difficult for me to make it out to Brier Creek now at that time of day, not to mention that Thursdays are usually busy for me, so I simply run out of time!

Anyway, if anyone starts up another meet I will definitely be interested, and will still try to find a way to make it to the regular second Thursday meets as well. I've been out of the Triangle MINI loop for too long! :(

Yeah, I agree with keeping the second Thursdays. I'd also be in favor of adding the fourth Tuesday at a different location. I wouldn't mind moving the Thursday location around a little bit, but once we get a second night started, I feel like it'd be easier if the Thursday meets were same place, same time every month. That way people who don't read the forums, or people you meet in passing, will know where to go.
