When: 18 and 19th of February, 2012.

This is a gathering of Mini's in the North Georgia Mountains in a little village called Helen Georgia. While these clubs have not posted the details of the 2012 event to date I have pulled together this information and will post a link as soon as it is available.

Helen is a little town is as German as you can get from the food to the beer and other spirits. Lots of shopping with a clock shop with hundreds of selections plus about everything else under the sun. Additionally, the Helen area is blessed with a number of excellent twisty roads and is a great way to start the year of Mini driving.

Two Mini clubs sponsor this event; MINI Motoring Club of the Carolinas (M2C2) and Middle Georgia MINI club. This event has been an annual event for a number of years. Last year, 4 or 5 THMMC members traveled to Helen for this event. We have had a few drivers from our club go to this event you the last few years. Both clubs are friendly and welcome all Miniac's to their event. Last year drew a total of 54 Minis.

The clubs usually base their lodging at a hotel called the Helendorf, where, last year, they had river side rooms for $79 and others for $59. You can just sign up and come, no entry fee to be part of this event. If you wait too late to get a room there are several nice motels in the town. A note, please call the other motels directly rather than going thru a travel site as this is off season and the you will save plenty.

They have a auction at the Troll Restaurant with Mini Stuff, NASCAR stuff and alot more with all the monies going to the Speedway Childrens Charity. At the 2010 event, we raised over $1600.00 and in 2011 they improved on that.

There will be drives and tours of the Habersham Winery who, for this event, bottles a special Mini branded wine, in 2010 it was a Mini Merlot, each year it is different. Also the Grits Mill and Gold Mine in nearby towns.

fwiw, the Helen area CVB has the event listed on their calendar for Feb. 25-26. Like you, I cannot find any indication that any of the clubs involved in the past are working on plans to hold the event during 2012.

I see it there as well. The Raleigh group tries to head down there Friday evening but technically it is Saturday and Sunday event. I will adjust the calendar to show just Saturday and Sunday. Quite a few members from AtlantaMinis come up Saturday morning for the group photo as the winery.

I received an update from the organizes that moves this event to the weekend before the one the county site notes. I have updated the original posting and the calendar notice.

If I can get my planning done, maybe I can grab 2/25 for an event now.

Just got asked to switch with a co-worker, so now I have the weekend off - Ben & I will be there in Moira! Already made our reservation at Helendorf, and drooling at the thought of spatzle and twisties in a few short weeks...

Sorry Jim,

That is not my intention.

Awesome event - weather was better than we hoped (no rain until the auction), twisties were glorious (fantastic route, Jeff!) made new friends (esp. the "stop possum") and raised money for a great cause (and watched Way do an interesting "installation"). Can't wait until next year!

I'm glad all members who attended had a nice time. Heather wasn't kidding the weather was sunny and in the high 50's for the group shot and during the runs. The group I led followed a nice route (which timed out to ~3:15) that included the Richard B. Russell Scenic Hwy. and Wolf Pen Gap Rd. By the time we finished we were quite twistied out. Our scourge this trip was not Chevy Impalas as in MSSD 2009 but Toyotas (5 separate cars and trucks to limit our speed). Traveling up the Uncoi Turnpike (GA 17/75) we got behind a old Toyota pickup with camper shell containing 2 hunter and a dog doing 35-38 MPH up the mountain, AHHHG! However, most of the day was fine. No accidents or rocks in windshields. Some rather wide bicyclists were seen and avoided. Here is the Flickr account address.

Heather has the exact count, but it was over 70 Minis. Nice group shot.

82 MINIs from 13 clubs and 8 states. It was an awesome turnout, save for the bloody Toyotas - nothing more annoying than being behind a Prius recharging his battery braking downhill when you're trying to enjoy some wicked twisties...
