Count me in.
I just googled MINI driving school and came up with this article http://www.motoringfile.com/2003/05/07/AnnouncingTheMINIDrivingSchool. I also took it upon myself to email the organizer, since it's in our neck of the woods, to see if I could get any information about putting one of these together. If he writes back, I'll post the message.
Excellent idea! :D
Then I found this guy: http://www.minidriving.com/events.asp

What kind of things do they teach you? What other things like say a helmet are required?

You alternate between class and track. Each person is assigned a ride-along instructor.
The classroom information is very useful real world driving info... where to look, how to respond to things around you, MINI specific features, etc. They also teach some track etiquette.
My in car instructor told me how to take the lines. We did ABS tests and things you wouldn't normally do on the street. I had 5 or 6 20-minute sessions on the track and I was worn out at the end of the day. One time my instructor took me out in his Mustang Cobra... I started turning green after about 6 laps... shoulda done it after lunch instead of on an empty stomach.
I had my own helmet, but they also let you rent them at the tracks. If you have any special restraints like Schroth harnesses you need to have them in both seats for the instructor.
Hope this helps!

I think Autocrossing is probably the best compromise for finding the limits of your car in a safe environment (without an instructor). I don't reccommend going somewhere like VIR and running laps w/o an instructor if you're planning to push the car.
I wrecked my BMW in Dec at VIR running in the rain on a paced-lap session. Don't run without a helmet, whether its required or not.

And if your wife says she has a bad feeling, you might want to re-think the event. :D **ahem**
