Hey all! I started looking into various parades throughout the state that we might be able to join in (after having a wierd dream of all things about being in a parade).
Apparently this occured to me too late, because the big Raleigh Christmas Parade is already past it's deadline for entries... but there's another supposedly decent sized parade next March for St Patrick's Day. In theory we could decorate our cars out and join in :) It would have been easier at Christmas to deck our cars in Holly and so forth, but I suppose St Patty's day is a creative opportunity as well.
BUT, if any of you know of other good parades in the state that might provide us an opportunity, my all means post about them here and let's see if something cool comes up.

Lee, great idea! Especially if we can hit a small town that may not have a lot of MINIs around...btw, congrats on your new position!

Ok, I'll throw out an idea.
The Midway N.C. Christmas Parade is held on a Saturday afternoon during the first part of December; I'm not sure of the date at this time. It usually starts around 2:00 and lasts an hour and a half or so. Its about a 3 miles route down Old Hwy 52. There is not an entry fee; or there hasn't been in the past, and its a pretty cool parade.
Now, I know most of you are asking; where the heck is Midway?
Midway is located just south of Winston Salem, off of Hwy 52. Its about a 10 minute drive from Flow Mini.
The parade is billed as "The biggest little parade in North Carolina", and has always drawn a fairly large crowd.
When I was a member of another "car club" we participated one year, and had a great time. We did the parade, and then the group went back into Winston Salem and met at a resturant for a meet/greet/meal.

Fantastic! Seems like there's lots of good options. Looks like most Christmas parades are locked down already, but I haven't looked into the High Point one, I'll have to look into that pronto (as well as the Midway run)
:) And if we miss this round, no biggy, we'll just start planning for next year!

Haha Rich, here's hoping!
I'm still looking into other Parades, but I did early register us as a group for the St Patricks Day Raleigh Parade next year. I'm hoping we can get a good 10-15 MINIs, hopefully more.

As far as that event, we need to decide if we're interested in decorating our cars out for it :) What do you guys think about that? Perhaps if we came up with a common technique or gimmick for the cars we could do them all as a group?

Count us in for a parade in High Point, Greensboro, Winston or anywhere nearby. Just let us know when and where.

Small town parades seem to go better. Whereas larger cities get more viewing, smaller venues show a lot more appreciation. High Point used to charge an entry fee and I think I heard something about insurance. Charlotte requires that. It may be short notice but High Point has a Veterans Day parade in November, Jack Austin heads it up and plans it and is always looking for entries. Could do the Minis in a military theme, "Military Minis". DURN! Should have got the .50 Caliber bandolier stripes instead!

Any other CABRIO owners in the Cary / Apex / Holly Springs / Fuquay area? I may have an opportunity for one or more other folks to join me in the Holly Springs parade on December 8th! I've been asked to drive "escort" for my sons' Tae Kwon Do studio, and we could probably use one or two (or maybe more) other cars for this! Please PM me if you're interested!

If you can't find another cabrio how about a really big sunroof for the mini kung fo'ers to stand up TdF race official style?
You know I'm always up for an event.
