Hi all.

I am taking my wife on a surprise trip to Asheville this weekend as a Valentines thing. We are both new to NC and have never been to Asheville. I have a bed and breakfast booked for 2 nights, and already have tickets for a day at the Biltmore.

I am looking for suggestions on restaurants for dinner. I am looking for something really nice. Price is not really an issue (I don't want something super expensive.. but entrees in the $20 - $30 range is fine). Any suggestions? A really nice Italian or French restaurant would be great.

Also.. any suggestions of things to do in the area? I know there is good shopping which my wife will love. Anything else specific that we should check out.. or should we just go there and play it by ear?

Thanks!
Bill

There is a restuarant or 2 at Biltmore. 1 is supposed to be pretty nice. My wife and I almost went to the Inn up there for our honeymoon before we realized we could go on a cruise for the same amount of money. Look at biltmore's site for more info.

I have looked into the ones at the Biltmore. Sounds like they have a few there, ranging from nice to VERY nice. I am considering them.. but any other suggestions?

We had a great time! Stayed in an old restored mansion, had some great meals, visited the Biltmore, and wandered around downtown Asheville.

If anyone is going that way in the near future and wants an amazing meal, go to Savoy. It is a great restaurant, and I highly recommend the Chefs Tasting Menu. You choose the number of courses, and if you want each paired with wine, and then you just sit back and wait. The chef then decides what you will eat, and you have no idea what you will get until it is put in front of you. I had one of the best meals that I have had in years!! Be sure to check it out!
