I need some feedback from those of you in the web business. I have absolutely had it with the company that currently handles our hosting...if I could have had my way today, interland.com would have been on the chopping block.

I use godaddy.com for personal stuff, but am not sure how they would handle a medium/large size business. Everything on their site promises all that I want and more, but I need to find the people with the best (or the least frustrating) tech support. I thought my head would explode today as I explained my help desk ticket for the 3rd time to the 4th person, even after a ticket number had been assigned and they had the notes from the previous calls. Since I have upgraded our plan - and I use that term loosely - in August, I have had around 20 help desk tickets to resolve the move from one admin account to another. Almost every time, with the exception of one nice gentleman on a Saturday morning/afternoon, I've had people to close the ticket early because they didn't listen or understand what the problem was, so they were merely putting a band-aid on dam break.

Anyone with any suggestions for comparison shopping will be greatly appreciated and if your suggestions point me in the right direction - I'll buy you and your rider a round at the next gathering.

Thanks in advance for any interest in helping.
Amy

I use godaddy too. I've yet to have any problems at all that would have been their fault. My credit card expired so my site went down but I called and it was back up nearly immediately. Mine is a simple personal site though.

Thanks Griff! The more I look around, the more I'm thinking they are the way to go.

Do you use any of the extras like the blogs or forums on your site? I work for a Girl Scout council, so there is the potential for minors to use these tools and their safety is the number one priority - barring what godaddy has set up, what sorts of things am I getting myself into as far as moderation goes? Since it would not be a volunteer task at the moment, I'm thinking I would need to be on nearly 24/7 or else have it set up for the posts to be emailed to me before getting approved.

Or maybe I have entirely the wrong idea about these things. Just wanted to test the waters before I let anyone around me know what I'm thinking of doing ;)

I'm your source! Lets talk soon. I've been doing this for 12 years and 8 of those with a great host. I use godaddy only for domain registration. Thats what they do best

Yeah talk to mark about hosting and such. The godaddy thing was just a simple way to get a site up. When I get a new computer I may turn my old one into a server of sorts and host my site myself.

And as far as setting up a forum, it's not hard to do and you should get some of the mothers or responsible people to be moderators for you. They would probably be more than willing to help. No need for you to do it all. It's too much really for 1 person.
