What about those Tatas -- 33 HP of coolness, no?

okay, other than the fact that that message reads vaguely like a really pathetic porn-ad... I have been intrigued by these little cars that are coming out. If they can do something for $2700, that's amazing.

It is extra cool if they can make them useful for other minimalists like myself. If that had been an option here, and I lived in a more densely populated area, I might have gotten one (except that most of my driving is highway at 80+).

I saw the pics today. And I did feel ashamed even looking at them. Just ashamed. What a piece of crap they have created. I can see it now: "Expedition rolls right through Tata at red light. Update at 6 o'clock."

Would you call that a Drive Thru?

I worked with Tata in the early '80s, when they were bringing IT consultants from India, and having them work in ships docked in the bay at San Francisco. They were making tons of money then and apparently haven't stopped.

If I'm not mistaken Volkswagen means people's car, and that's what the bug was for a while.

Toyota Yaris beware, other than performance, which isn't an issue in densely populated areas b/c of traffic congestion, this may be your demise in those situations. Far fetched? Look at the Hyundai commercials where a Lexus owner mistakes her minivan for theirs. (Sorry RX300 owners, that's NOT an SUV).

I wonder if we'll see more micro cars like the Smart in the U.S.? Maybe they'll become our answer to mass transit? They may also make good timeshare rentals. Some areas have bicycles and cars available for use on a short term basis.

I think any innovation in transportation is good, even if I'd personally never own it.

Dave, surely you are kidding. Come on, man! Have you seen the thing? Here:

I had not seen it, and now that I have, strike the Yaris comment, and add this: $2,500 people--think about it, a whole, operational car, delivered for US $2,500--that's pretty remarkable.

2004 headline: Edmunds.com Reports Average New Vehicle Price Tops $30K for the First Time

Diff topic and related, just stumbled across this on another forum:

DETROIT (AP) -- Ford Motor Co. picked India's Tata Motors Ltd. as the top bidder for its Jaguar and Land Rover units, the Detroit automaker said Thursday.

Dave, seriously. A "remarkable" $2,500 car that in any accident would just disintegrate. It is pretty much a scooter with a frame around it. It's just not right. Remember the Yugo????

Well, if someone can live with a car that has the get up and go of a large lawnmower, more power to them! ;) The gas mileage is probably going to be incredibly good.

Dang ya'll, all that "thing" needs is a set of wheels and 2''-4'' drop and tinted windows.. REAL DARK so no one can see you driving it!!!!! ;)

Claims to get 50 MPG
Might make a great rain/snow car on the cheap...

I'm just waiting for the JCW version. With the right mods I could see 40HP out of that 600cc engine... and I'm gonna put 17" wheels on mine.

I know some of you will wait for the cabriolet. :D

Seriously, I'm surprised it can't get 60 or 70 mpg.
