Part of Blue Ridge Parkway CLOSED until Spring 09

I got this info out of this mornings Winston Salem Journal.

"Officials say repairs to a collapsed retaining wall on a section of the Blue Ridge Parkway won't be complete until spring 2009.

The highway will remain closed between Milepost 355 at the entrance to Mount Mitchell State Park and Milepost 367 near Craggy Picnic Area until the repairs are finished.

The state park will remain accessible from the northeast. A detour around the closed section will be marked."

I saw that also. I know there will be a few closings that we'll have to go around. I don't think there will ever be a year that the whole parkway will be open the entire way.

Agree, chances of ever doing the whole length of the BRP without a detour are slim to none. Just consider the detours as part of it!

Think of it as a new road to drive on that you may have otherwise missed.
