5th Annual Bullfrog Run
Spring weather in North Carolina can only mean one thing – it is time for a Bullfrog Run!!! Join the Tar Heel MINI Motoring Club for the annual Bullfrog Run – our fifth year in a row for this event – on March 31, 2012.
The Bullfrog Run is held each year in memory of one of the club's original members, Rob Baker aka Bullfrog. Rob was one of the finest individuals to belong to the THMMC and he left an indelible impression on all those who knew him. He set an example for all of us to follow in helping out our fellow MINI owners, supporting each other enthusiastically, and emphasizing the joy of motoring in a MINI Cooper no matter what version or options you may have.
One of Rob's favorite drives was Highway 66 running north up out of Winston-Salem. So our Bullfrog Run always includes this nice twisty stretch of road. In the past we've lunched at Dairi-Os and held picnics at Hanging Rock State Park. This year we change things up just a bit to keep it fresh. After running up Hwy 66 and then looping back down toward Hanging Rock, we'll head west and go up to the summit of Pilot Mountain for a quick break and to take in the view from this familiar landmark. We'll then head down and across some more country through the Rockford community on our way to Yadkinville for some lunch and ICE CREAM at Nate's Place. Nate's is the former Tammy's Toasted Hot Dogs and Dairy Barn. Nate and his dad reopened it. Looks like there is a nice big parking lot for us (Nate's is working to make sure it will be open - if not, we'll park where we can) so we can support a local restaurant.
A Google Maps version of our route is shown below and here is a gpx version for those with GPS unit that can import the route. Our starting point, per tradition, is the parking lot of the Lowe's Home Improvement on University Parkway off Highway 52 North. Should be about a 2 hour drive to the summit of Pilot Mountain and then a little over an hour from there to Nate's Place.
Please note that we are still working on verifying portions of the route, but I don't think there are any gravel or dirt roads to deal with.
Hope you can join us! Please post in this thread if you will make it, just so we'll have an idea and can let Nate know what to expect.
