Big Brake Kit for sale SOLD

I've taken my car in a different direction, so I'm putting my TSW MDM big brake kit up for sale. It's three years old and has seen about 40,000 miles. This big brake kit served me well on the track and the Dragon. I've upgraded it over the years, and I've included full specs below. This kit is oriented towards the occasional track driver and is very well mannered on the street. It will give you supreme confidence in the twistys to push a little harder and stop on a dime if the need arises. This kit is intended for 17" wheels; OEM wheels may not fit. This kit fits all MINIs - Cooper 2002-2012, Cooper S 2002-2012, Clubman 2008-2012, Coupe 2012, and Roadster 2012.

Price: $749 plus shipping (custom brake duct backing plates, add $100)

    Everything shown above is included.

Calipers: Outlaw 2000 series aluminum 4-piston fixed calipers. Pistons are 1.38" dia. stainless steel, no dust boots, and calipers have been rebuilt with fresh seals twice, most recently last weekend, so calipers are like new. Outlaw is just down the street from Way Motor Works, so Way can have them rebuilt at the factory for a low price. These aluminum calipers are much lighter than stock calipers.

Hardware: All mounting hardware, dog bones, stainless steel brake lines, fittings, and pad retainer pins are included. One spare cotter pin is also included. Original TSW mounting and installation instructions, with photos and torque specs, are included.

Rotors: Two-piece steel 12.2"x0.81" rotors with lightweight aluminum hats. From the original Coleman 24-vane rotors, I've upgraded the rotor discs to 36-vane Wilwood GT rotors. They probably have 80% of their life remaining. These rotors have seen just three track days and probably 2,000 street miles. The Wilwood rotors are very high quality, last a long time, and resist cracking with better vanes and more airflow. Replacements can be purchased very affordably from Todd at TCE Performance, or any other Wilwood dealer.

Pads: Three sets of brake pads are included: Hawk HPS street pads with 10.5 mm remaining (out of 12mm), brand new Performance Friction PFC-01 track pads, and a backup set of PFC-01 pads with 4-5mm remaining (good for a few track sessions just in case). Some track and street pads don't play well together, but the Hawk HPS are great for swapping in and out with track pads. Pads for these calipers are extremely affordable, too.

Studs are not included. TSW strongly recommended studs for use with their BBK due to the increased rotor hat thickness, however TCE sells an identical thickness rotor hat and does not require studs. I installed studs with this BBK, YMMV.

Custom brake duct backing plates are available for an additional $100 (shown below). With the help of a professional metal sculptor, I modified a set of Sneed's brake ducts to fit the larger 12.2" rotor. High temp flexible 3" brake duct hose is not included, but may be obtained online for about $100.

All parts are boxed up and awaiting shipment. Please PM me; I accept payment via Paypal. I've done considerable research on most aspects of these brakes and can provide support for installation, maintenance, brake pad fitment, and parts availability. Proper fit is the responsibility of the buyer; I can email a PDF caliper template if you need to check wheel fitment.

An even bigger brake kit. This kit is great for a street car because it's actually lighter than stock. The two piece rotor weighs the same as a stock rotor, and the aluminum caliper is much lighter than the stock rotor. Track pads for this setup are $65 and street pads are $85, so it's easy to experiment with different options, and it's easy to swap pads for different applications. But I tend to be hard on brakes and I'm headed towards R-compound track tires, which put way more stress on everything. I drove my car less than 1,000 miles last year, and most of that was to and from track events. So it was time to upgrade to a TCE Plus 3 kit. That kit required grinding the steering knuckles down and buying custom spacers to fit under my wheels. The TCE rotors are much heavier than stock, so I notice a big difference in the damping when I'm running my heavier street wheels. I have to adjust my dampers to full stiff, otherwise the car bounces down the highway, too much unsprung mass. The lighter track wheels feel great, though.

So while I loved this TSW brake kit and it used to be perfect for my needs, my car has become mostly a track car and I've upgraded accordingly. And just fyi, if you're considering a brake upgrade, I will entertain all offers on this kit, especially to local club members. They're in great condition, great pad thickness, great rotor thickness, and I just rebuilt the calipers.
