    Over-Heating Whoes...

Audrey has been overheating since Friday morning...

I checked the expansion tank and it was empty, but I can see that it has been boiling over, but WHY!? (I filled the tank last night)

    She's an 06 non S automatic.

We are going to make a Dr. appointment for her tomorrow...

Anyone else have an idea what could be causing this?

    Thanks...

Since the tank shows signs of boiling over, my guess would be the thermostat has gone bad.

That's also what I was thinking... The thermostat or coolant mix are pretty much the only things that cause a boil-over, We need to get her out to W/S ASAP!

    Thanks guys...

Mine is a 2003 mcs, and this may be totally unrelated, but I typically have to refill my expansion tank about once every 30-45 days.

I don't ever see large amounts of coolant leak, but there are signs coolant is slowly leaking from expansion tank (this was a problem with some earlier model expansion tanks)

I can tell when it is time to refill... the fan under the car comes on more often, and generally this will happen only while car is idling at a stoplight etc. Once I get going the air flow seems to be enough to keep things cool.

I'm thinking of getting a Forge stainless steel tank to replace my oem one.

Yeah, I can see that it pushed the lid up a tiny bit to leak all down the side of the tank... We made an appointment with Flow (you know, the 2 hour drive away...) with no idea what is wrong, and how long it will take.

We all should petition MINI and send them our fuel bills to go to the closest MINI dealer! Cripes! Have 2 dealerships an hour apart and none anywhere else in the state... I mean WTF!

I have an 06 non S automatic and kept finding a coolant puddle under my baby. Took it to Flow and they determined the thermostat housing was warped and said they had seen a few of these. They replaced it and haven't had a problem since. My MINI is the first of the 06 builds (Sept 05).

I hope it works out okay. Let us know what the problem is when you find out. I have a 06 too.
