Summer Heat Rally (LTR)
Saturday, July 26, 2014

http://www.tarheelminis.org/2014_events/thmmc_summer_heat_rally.png

With the heat of the summer sun pressing down on all of us, let痴 take our MINIs and explore a couple more things associated with heat. We値l start by gathering at the summit of Pilot Mountain. From there, we値l loop around to Sparta and then start heading northwest for a run up the fire-breathing Back of the Dragon all the way to Tazewell. When we get there, we値l eat at the heat-producing Coal Bucket Deli.

You should probably expect this to take about 3 hours to get to Tazewell and then an hour or so for lunch. After lunch, we値l run back down Hwy 16 to Marion. From there you can either continue on the backroads or pickup I-81 and I-77 to start heading back home.

This is going to be a 斗ow tech rally (hence the LTR). So no Google Maps, no gpx file. You gotta find the summit of Pilot Mountain and then hope I致e memorized all the routes (but I値l try to find an old-timey paper map to have with me just in case).

Like all of my runs this year, I will be taking up donations for the Patriot Rovers, Inc. organization.

Starting Point: Pilot Mountain (at the summit)
Driver痴 Meeting: 8:30 am

Note that all times are tentative/approximate. Please bring your MINI and a 2-way radio (yeah, I値l allow radios instead of hand signals in the interest of safety) capable of receiving channel 20/20.

Hope you can join us. Please post in the comments below to let me know if you will be attending.

Is it too late to join up? I just got free on Saturday and could use a nice long drive. Looks like Pilot mountain is about a 3 hour drive from me, but I doubt I could find it with out GPS. Any suggestions on what to bring?

Come on and join us. You can use your GPS to get to the starting point at Pilot Mountain (though you can't really miss it once you are on 52 North). Bring a 2-way radio if you have one and probably some cash in case we stop anywhere that doesn't take plastic.

As long as your dog doesn't mind the twisties (though that will really be your problem). Think about what you'll do with your dog during lunch as well.

Still have the event video to process, but here is a PSA video I was able to put together involving the Camaro. I guess most of our participants did not see this.
