When: 18th to 21st of February, 2016.

Where: Helen, Georgia.

This is a gathering of Mini's in the mountains of North Georgia in a little village called Helen. Helen is a little town and is as German as you can get from the food to the beer and other spirits. Lots of shopping with a clock shop with hundreds of selections plus about everything else under the sun. Additionally, the Helen area is blessed with a number of excellent twisty roads and is a great way to start the year of Mini driving.

Two Mini clubs sponsored this event the first few years it was held; MINI Motoring Club of the Carolinas (M2C2) and Middle Georgia MINI club. This event has been an annual event for a number of years. Currently, it is more specific people that plan and hold the event rather than clubs. This event bases its lodging at a hotel called the Helendorf (http://www.helendorf.com, [706] 878-2271), call and mention Heleblitz to get their discounted price. You can just sign up and come, no entry fee to be part of this event. If you wait too late to get a room there are several nice motels in the town. A note, please call the other motels directly rather than going thru a travel site as this is off season and the you will save plenty. They have an auction this year at the pavilion at the Helendorf. There will also be drives and tours of the Habersham Winery who, for this event, bottles a special Mini branded wine.

The mountain roads in this area are truly excellent and have some of the best twisties in the East. Note, Helen in located on the southern edge of the Blue ridge mountains and geographically south of Fontana Village. I have lead the main run for the last three years as well as occasionally taking the events group shot. Hope to see some of you there.

In the last 4 years, a number of THMMC members traveled to Helen for this event. We have had a few drivers from our club go to this event you the last few years. Both clubs are friendly and welcome all Miniac's to their event. The clubs usually base their lodging at a hotel called the Helendorf (http://www.helendorf.com, [706] 878-2271), call and mention Heleblitz to get their discounted price. The room rates are as follows:

Standard Room: $74.00 a night +tax
Riverfront Balcony: $99.00 per night + tax
Riverfront Patio : $109 per night + tax

You can just sign up and come, no entry fee to be part of this event. If you wait too late to get a room there are several nice motels in the town. A note, please call the other motels directly rather than going thru a travel site as this is off season and the you will save plenty.

Helen seems to be rather popular with a wide array of car crowds. (SoWo with the VW crowd comes to mind.) Never been myself, but maybe they'll change this year.

It is always a fun time with great food and nice twisties. It has a little bit of a loser format than some of the structured events that are held nationally. That's probably part of it's appeal.

No doubt, I'm glad to see the blitz is still going. (Which apparently can't be said for SoWo 2016, because apparently they trashed the town in 2015.) All that being said my involvement will probably come down to whether or not there will be decals and/or grill badges to commentate the event [emoji23]. Seriously, tell me there are stickers or something a la Deals Gap.

So for those of us (or maybe just me) that don't use FB for everything, is there a list of events/runs/etc? The website doesn't show much of anything and anything that is shown is out of date.

While the Helenblitz event starts on Thursday the 18th, I normally head out on Friday. I will be leaving early on Friday the 19th from Fayetteville, NC and arrive in Helen around 1:00-2:00 PM. If anyone is interested in a caravan to Helenblitz, let me know.
